HomeMy WebLinkAboutDraft Minutes - Dog Park Committee - 03/02/2020 Dog Park Committee DRAFT Meeting Minutes Monday, March 2, 2020 Members Present: Larry Kupferman (Interim Chair), Mike Simoneau (Vice Chair Recreation & Parks Committee, Linda Chiasson, Maggie Leugers (City Advisor), Muriel More, Molly Bezio Members Absent: Kate Lukas, Betty Milizia Members of Public: Lisa Yankowski 1. Safety Procedures: Maggie directed the group to exit through administration offices to back parking lot of building 2. Appointed Clerk: Molly Bezio 3. Adopt Agenda: Agenda adopted as presented. 4. Public Comments: Lisa Yankowski recently took in-person survey at Red Rocks about the park and handed out Dog Park brochure 5. Minutes: Approved February 3, 2020 minutes. 6. Update Wheeler Homestead Signage “Future Home of SoBu Dog Park” a) Signage will consist of hard material to withstand weather. A banner would likely be torn up. The new signage is coming out of marketing budget. b) The sign will be close to Dorset and angled so it is well-visible to the road. c) Lisa recommended adding a sign to Red Rocks as well to reach a lot of dog walkers. d) Betty drafted a potential design for Wheeler which was presented to the DPC. Design included circular areas segregated for large and small/shy dogs. 7. Farrell Dog Park Improvements Walkthrough with DPW a) See minutes from Dog Park Design Sub-Committee held February 20, 2020 at Farrell Dog Park b) Dog Drinking Fountain: Needs to be high enough to allow for drainage depending on the type of foundation/trough selected c) Handicap parking signage would need to be a standing sign due to limited snow removal if it doesn’t already exist. d) There is a large gate that allows for large equipment to access small section of dog park. DPC will need to check to see if large equipment can also access larger area. e) Drainage Maintenance: Revisit potential to add dirt/gravel to park and crown area to allow for water run-off and reduce amount of ice in winter. DPW has fill left over from another project. 8. Wheeler Dog Park Meeting with DPW & Consultants a) No meeting scheduled as of yet. Larry will follow-up with Justin Rabidoux. 9. Future Site Planning a) Primary focus is on Wheeler before identifying next dog park. 10. Reports a) Friends of Dog Parks (Betty): Hats and beanies with dog park logo are now available for sale for $20 and $15, respectively. Funds go to future dog parks, including but not limited to Wheeler. b) Recreation & Parks Committee (Mike) 11. Future Agenda Items: a) Plan for design and construction phases of Wheeler Dog Park b) Implementation of fundraising strategies c) Future site planning (i.e., Hinesburg road, tech park) d) On-Going Evaluation Plan e) Continue Public Forums 12. Meeting Schedule: a) Monday, April 6, 2020 – 6-7:30 PM b) Monday, May 4, 2020 – 6-7:30 PM (Maggie out of town) Meeting adjourned at 6:51 PM.
