Economic Development Committee Meeting
February 13, 2024
The South Burlington Economic Development committee held a regular meeting on February
13th at 5 pm in Room 301, 180 Market Street, and by remote participation.
Members present: T. Bailey (Chair), J. Burton, K. Linge, S. Srinivasan, M. Scanlan
Members not present: M. Biama
Also present: I. Blanchard (City Staff), T. Barritt (Council Liaison)
1. Public comments on items not on the agenda
No comments
2. Review and approve minutes from January 9, 2024 meeting
No comments, a motion to approve the meeting minutes was made by J. Burton and
seconded by K. Linge, motion approved with all in favor.
3. Staff and Council Update
• The city council has approved the letter of commitment in support of the GaN
Techhub initiative.
• Ilana updated the group on the recent SB city newsletter that highlights the
report prepared by the collective city staff on various economic and growth
aspects of SB city. The group discussed opportunity for further analysis to better
understand specific trends of housing, school enrollment and other economic
growth factors.
4. Member Discussion
• The group discussed follow-up efforts on the developing the economic
development strategy plan for SB based on the guidance from Taylor Newton,
CCRPC. We agreed to contact Patricia Coates, UVM office engagement to seek
potential funding for initial development of data specific to SB that fits the
template that Taylor N. has provided. This initial work would form the basis for a
business case to the city council for an engagement with an appropriate
consultant.
• There was a suggestion by Ilana B. and Tim B. for EDC to revise the ARPA funding
request to include funding for the economic development strategy plan.
5. Green Tech Center Update
• John B. updated the group on his preliminary meeting with Beta, Onlogic,
Dynapower and Resonant link on the efforts to promote a Green Technology
Center that would facilitate acceleration and scaleup of emerging technologies.
6. Adjourn
• The Meeting was adjourned at ~7 pm.
