City Council Resolution Honoring Meaghan Emery for
Her Years of Service to South Burlington
February 20, 2024
Whereas, Meaghan Emery will step down following her following 14 years of service to the South Burlington
City Council on March 5, 2024; and
Whereas, Meaghan was appointed to the South Burlington Charter Review Committee in 2007; and
Whereas, Meaghan helped to reform the City's Charter to include Neighborhood Civic Forums; and
Whereas, Meaghan was elected to the City Council in 2008 and appointed the vice chair in 2011 and served
until 2012; and
Whereas, Meaghan was reelected to the City Council in 2014, and again served as vice chair; and
Whereas, Meaghan was South Burlington's representative on Channel 17's Board of Trustees between 2008 and
2015, serving as its treasurer and president; and
Whereas, Meaghan was a strong advocate for the new police station, the conservation of Leduc Farm (now
Bread and Butter Farm), and the development of City Center; and
Whereas, Meaghan was a fierce advocate for a noise exposure program to help residents of Chamberlain
neighborhood affected by their proximity to the Burlington International Airport and was instrumental in the
final negotiations that settled the Airport appraisal disagreement; and
Whereas, Meaghan's service was guided by her belief in "smart growth combined with natural resource
protection, economic development, and diversity in housing to serve the needs of a variety of households."
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the City Council, do hereby honor Meaghan Emery for her years of
dedicated service and offer our sincere thanks and appreciation in recognition of her leadership to be part of a
government that is open, transparent, and accountable.
