large poplar tree in the front yard would mass it.
Mr. Myette said that he would like to have an on -site inspection of the
property because 3Ir. Daigle's best interests could be served if the Board
had more detailed information about the treatment of the front, the land-
scaping, fence, etc. fr. Daigle said that he wanted the members to vote
on it now. Hr. Fayette asked if tie would like to have theim vote on it with
the stipulation that it be in line with the house, but Dir. Daigle turned
this down, too.
The Board voted 4 to 1 to deny the appeal.
Mr. Daigle asked for a poll of the Board, and then thanked Mr. Sylvester
for voting for his deck.
No. 2. Appeal of Raymond J. Ploof
Appeal of Raymond J. Floof seeking .a variance, from Section 11.00,
Dimensional Requirements of the South Burlington Zoning Regulations.
Request is for permission to construct a 12' x 20' addition to within
twenty-three (23) feet of the westerly side yard, at 1993 Williston Road.
Mr. ',hard said that the area was zoned R-4 and that a variance granting the
present dual use (apartment and real estate office) had been given in October
1973. aectior. 11.00, Dimensional requirements, subsection 11.002, side
yard abutting a street, requires a 30' side yard. The proposed addition
( 12' x 20' ) would be within 23 feet of the westerly side yard and would
be an extension of the structure presently at 23' frore the line. The parking
area would be moved to the rear of the addition.
Mr. Ploof said that he was requesting a variance because it would look cdd
to construct an addition set back 7' from the rest of the building. He
explained the layout of the building more throughly for the Board, and it
was pointed out that to set the addition back 7' would cause the roof lines
and hallways to be thrown off.
The Board voted unanimously to ;rant this appeal.
NO. 3. Appeal of Paul Menard
Appeal of Paul J. Ilenard seeking a variance, from Section 11.00, Dimensional
requirements and 11.80, Dwelling Unit Standards of the South Burlington
Zoning Regulations. Request is for permission to convert a single family
unit to include an efficiency unit containing 512 square feet on a lot
containing 7,000 square feet, at 57 Kirby Road.
This a_vpeal had been tabled for an on -site inspection at the Aril lb, 1977
meeting. Mr. Turd briefly repeated the information on the appeal.
Nr. Myette asked if there was further information for the .Board and said
4 of the 5 members had made the on -site inspection that afternoon. Mr.
"Nenard reviewed the reasons he was asking for a variance and then said
that the opposition the last time had been because of the way the house
looked and the jeep in the front yard. lie pointed out that he had moved the
jeep and that he had a contract with Roberts Aluminum to put siding on the

house. Mr. Martineau asked hoar many children and bedrooms he had. Mr.
,tiienard acid that they had 2 children and 3 bedrooms.
The Board voted unanimously to grant the appeal with the following stip-
ulations:
1) that the variance expires when Mrs. Menard's parents no longer
occupy the apartment
2) that Mr. Menard give Mr. Ward a copy of the contract from Roberts
Aluminum
3) that the applicant provide an additional means of access and egress
in case of fire.
Reading of the minutes of March 21, 1977, April 4, 1977, and April 15,1977
Tr. Sylvester moved that the Zoning Board approve the minutes of Harch 21,
1977.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Reed and passed unanimously.
Mr. Reed then moved that the Zoning Board a-oprove the minutes of April 4,
1977. Mr. Martineau expressed concern over whether there was enough in
the minutes about the discussion on the traf?ic likely to 'be created by
the Chalet Susse complex on Dorset Street at this meeting, but it was
decided that there was.
Mr..Fayette seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Mr. Martineau then moved that the Zoning Board accept the minutes of the
April 18, 1977 meeting.
