HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Library Board of Trustees - 04/30/2019 - Advocacy Meeting Minutes South Burlington Library Board of Trustees Advocacy Meeting Minutes For April 30, 2019 Attendees: Penne Tompkins, Linda Darlington, Bonnie Finnigan, MargaretAnn Cross Absent: Lee Freeman 1. Meeting called to order at 4:18 PM 2. No additions or deletions to the agenda 3. Penne made the motion to approve the minutes of 3/27/19 with a second from Linda The motion passed with the addition of Linda’s signature on the minutes. 4. Issues related to membership, quorums and voting. It is the consensus of the committee that community members of the Advocacy Committee be given voting privilege. We will verify that this is not in conflict with the Board by-laws. Our current community member (KM) has expressed an interest in taking a leave or resigning from the Advocacy Committee due to heavy commitments with other responsibilities including FOL and the Foundation. 5. MargaretAnn made a motion to approve the Advocacy Committee Statement of Purpose with minor revisions. Bonnie seconded. Passed unanimously. Linda will provide a final version. 6. Penne provided an update on the steering committee meeting of April 22 at City Hall. A good portion was spent on the need for improved communication between the City and School Board. There will likely be further discussion of the storm-water problems. Our group discussed whether there is a need for our advocacy on behalf of the library build given the delay this issue is causing. We decided that this issue is beyond our scope though we will follow the advice of Patrick Leduc if he had suggestions. We as a committee think it would be helpful to have a review of the number of people using the library as part of the efforts to support the solution/resolution of this issue. 7. Next meetings will be May 21, 2019 at 5 PM and June 25th at 5 PM. Both will be held at the library. Respectfully submitted, Bonnie Finnigan
