HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Library Board of Trustees - 10/10/2019 Approved Minutes South Burlington Library Board of Trustees Thursday, October 10, 2019 @ 5 p.m. Location: Library Meeting Room Members Present: Lee Freeman, Stacey Pape, Jay Pasackow, Nancy Fawley, Penne Tompkins, Patrick Leduc, Diane Bugbee, Mark Coel, MargaretAnn Cross, Bonnie Finnegan Members Absent: Staff Members Present: Jennifer Murray Friends of the Library Present: Katherine McConnell Guests: Chair Patrick Leduc called the meeting to order at 5:06 p.m., and a quorum was established. Additions or deletions to the posted agenda: An action item was added to the Finance Committee report. Comments and questions from the public not related to the items on the agenda: None Consent Agenda. Approval of the September 12, 2019, Friends of the library report and library Directors report Upon a motion made by Trustee Penne Tomkins and seconded by Trustee Jay Pasackow, the Trustees voted unanimously to approve the consent agenda. Chair’s report Patrick Leduc reports that the City Council voted to confirm spending on the Guaranteed Maximum Price of the future building at 180 Market Street. There seem to be no major likely hindrances to moving forward with construction of the building, according to Patrick Leduc’s conversations with City Manager Kevin Dorn. Friends of the Library Report: Katherine McConnell reports that a lot of nonfiction titles will be available at the upcoming Friends of the Library Book Sale! Finance Committee Report Diane Bugbee reported on ongoing donation allocution for the future Library with regard to the South Burlington Public Library Foundation and recounted updates on the current balance of the account in question. The Trustees discussed the account balance shift to the foundation motioned at the August meeting and considered holding on that transfer until a accounting review can be completed. The motion at the 8/8/19 meeting was “that the “New library Facility” account with a balance of $1,723,70 be closed and those funds be transfer to the South Burlington Library Foundation”. Trustee Diane Bugbee moved to reverse the motion made on 8/8/19 be reversed. Stacey Pape seconded. The Trustees voted unanimously to approve the motion. Advocacy Committee Report Trustee Bonnie Finnegan reports that the Committee recently met and agreed to expand their portfolio to advocate both for libraries nationally and Statewide in addition to advocating for the new South Burlington Public Library in the building at 180 Market Street. Design Committee. Trustee Mark Coel reports that progress is proceeding apace with regard to developmental planning. Jennifer Murray reported that library employees have been visiting local libraries to evaluate interior design and space usage ideas for the new library. Director’s report. Jennifer Murray reports that she attended a meeting with the artist and the Art Committee regarding the site art to be placed in the future library at 180 Market Street. Jennifer Murray reported that a study of area libraries’ compensation and benefits is complete. Possible staff increases will be needed for the new library to cover all necessary points of contact with public and administrative duties. Lee Freeman thanked Jennifer Murray for her ongoing service.
