HomeMy WebLinkAboutDraft Minutes - Library Board of Trustees - 10/02/2019South Burlington Library ADVOCACY COMMITTEE 10/02/19 at South Burlington Library, University Mall In Attendance: Linda Darlington, Bonnie Finnigan, Lee Freeman, , Margaretann Cross, and Jennifer Murray 1. Meeting was called to order by Bonnie at 5:02 PM. 2. Additions or deletions to posted agenda: None 3. Approval of April 30, 2019 Advocacy Committee Minutes: Lee motioned to approve the January minutes; Linda seconded. All were in favor: Motion passed. 4. The Committee reviewed our Purpose Statement. We need to create an Advocacy Plan for the Library. Jennifer identified that there are national issues that effect all libraries and are important for our Board to know about. Currently, access to the internet and free Broadband. Advocacy will be passing these and other issues on to the Board. We also need to be involved in promoting the “Big Event” which is when the Foundation will make the Fundraising public. This will be during National Library Week (4/19/20 to 4/25/20) and the theme will be “Find your place at the library. Social Media Presence: Jennifer sends emails. Kathy does the Facebook Charlotte does Instagram If we see a comment on the Library Website or South Burlington Watch that is negative about the library we should be making a brand new comment that reflects positively. We should not engage in a debate with the person making the post. Jennifer will notify us should that occur and we’ll decide who from our committee should post. We should all sign up to follow the library page. We should also start posting “did you know” information about the library. 5. We will be involved in the Ground Breaking which will hopefully occur in October 2020. Part of our Advocacy will be to inform the public as the building takes shape. We can do this by posting photos or videos. • 6. Our Advocacy Plan: o Social Media o Library Issues (National and Regional) o Informing the public of activities as they occur.
