Introduce task force members who are comprised of SoBu cizens who were interested in being on the task force : Kae Lenox, Bey Milizia, Linda Chiasson, Barbara Sirvis, Elizabeth Walker-Benne, Catherine Young, and staff support: Maggie Leugers, Jusn Rabidoux, Paul Connor b. Task force process-(Kae/Barb)? i. Meeng regularly for 2.5 months and ancipate will connue ii. The group created an original matrix for discussion iii. Commiee members piloted it on selected SoBu sites iv. Other factors arose that warrant expanding/adding other criteria 2. Recommendaons tonight (Bey/Barb) a. Connue to refine site selecon matrix, ID possible future sites b. Review current policy and pracces (naonally and locally) c. Develop recommendaons for addion sites, policies and guidelines for ongoing management. d. Support an ongoing body of cizens (cross secon of community), at least one expert, such as canine behavior specialist, veterinarian, municipal animal control. i. Connuing research of dog parks, best pracces locally and across the country 1. Configuraons (locaons, structure, size) 2. Safety 3. Rules 4. Monitoring (volunteers & animal control officer) 5. Addional resources needed 6. Establish A “Friends” groups for support 3. BTV proposal for a dog park (possible name “Gateway District” Dog Park) - (Bey/Linda) a. FAA approved b. BTV pays cost c. Five-year commitment d. Gives me for city to determine future for city dog parks e. Using some of the research we provided Jaycee Dog Park will be a separate City Council agenda item Status of Jaycee Park-(Maike/Elizabeth) f. Task Force applied criteria. g. Task Force voted for keeping it open (split 4-3) i. Comments/raonale of those who voted “yes” (walkability) ii. Comments/raonale of those who voted “no” (safety, nuisance noise) h. For park to open (no cost to city) i. Limit hours (dawn to dusk ii. Limit # of dogs in enclosure iii. Limit to small dogs only iv. Deal with noise/barking levels? i. For park to open with improvements (cost to city) i. Increase park size (more fencing) ii. Noise abatement on fencing iii. Monitoring gate iv. Friends of JC Dog park to monitor park
