HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Dog Park Task Force - 01/30/2018 Dog Park Task Force APPROVED Minutes 1-30-18 Attendance: Betty Milizia, Maike Uetzmann, Linda Chiasson, Katie Lenox, Catherine Young, Elizabeth Walker/Bennett,Maggie Leugers, Paul Connor Regrets: Barb Sirvis Reviewed agenda Introductions to first meeting by each member and what area of city each member was from. Maggie presented overview of what dog parks offer in a community and presented current city dog ordinance. Maggie handed out AKC Establishing a Dog Park in Your Community for reading by group. Paul expressed how to look at dog park development and presented to group two Dog Park selection process criteria and measurement score sheets from Shelburne, VT and Ann Arbor, MI. to review and think about criteria for South Burlington. Getting conversation started Paul suggest “would size mattered” and Catherine agreed it would be a criteria. Bettysuggested construction, shape, long run and differ types would dictate space size. Other suggested needs would be proper drainage, surface types, shade, benches, water, picnic tables, parking, walking andaccessibility to parks would be important in a matrix scoring chart. Short discussion by group about number of dog parks, where, and additional amenities to consider like sound levels, fencelevels, and access entrances large/small dogs. Paul asked group to think about natural areas with wetlands and wild lifecourters, publically owned properties-privately owned properties. Maggie shared sound barrier materials from Acoustiblok Dog Park Noise Barriers out of Tampa, FL. She said she’d sendvia email additional research information to group for review and discuss at next meeting.
