Dear sir. Allard:
Your zone cftinge request on Dorset Street was presented
to the Planning Commission at their weeting of October 9,
1967.
The "oard of Selectmen, after their first reading on your
petition and prior to sending it to the Planning Commission,
asked the Commission if they would also consider the
'j balrcixe of the land around the town hall site.
The Commission 'aas therefore considered your request as
part of a whole request and decided to table the item until
Mr. Sargent, a Board member, h,,As talked with Mr. Dan Kiley
for the purpose of 'getting a cost estimate for land planning
the area in question.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

RESIDENTIAL C
The League of

more orderly growth in
Women Voters of South Burlington supports the
Residential C District for multi -family
feels that such a separate district will
of more apartment house islands in already
Dds, and will lead to improved land use and
our community.
In general, this proposed ordinance appears to offer some
safeguards as to required size of yards, units, parking, signs etc.,
but we respectfully submit the following amendments for your con-
sideration:
•
(1) A greater depth be required (from proposed 30' to 601)
if an apartment backs to a public street or in lieu of a
depth increase adequate fence or shrubbery screening.
(2) A limitation of 22 stories in height on multi -family
dwellings. Mose of our members felt they did not want to
see the eventual creation of high-rise apartments in So.
Burlington while a minority did not feel this would be a
detriment to the future character of our town.
.
In addition to these amendments we strongly urge that this
ordinance require that a potential developer provide an adequate
park or recreation area for the resiOnts of his development.
Having just completed a two year study of our community school
system and the difficulties involved in keeping pace with the rapid
growth of school population, we would also like to suggest that both
the Planning Commission and the Board of Selectmen consider re-
quiring any developer of sufficient residential area to provide land
for future school construction.
We also suggest that a member of the School Directors be
appointed to the newly created planning coordinating committee to work
with our new consultant.
BUSINESS B to BUSINESS A
The League would also like to support the proposed change from
Business B to the more restrictive Business A for the area outlined in
the public notice.
JUNKYARD ORDINANCE
We applaud the efforts of the Selectmen which resulted in the
drafting of the proposed junkyard ordinance. The League feels this is
an important step in the right direction in preserving the desirability
of So. Burlington as a place to live.
