Minutes were approved (5:05- 5:40 pm)Request to create Pickle Ball Courts at Veterans Park: Chris Carpenter, Linda Norris A group presented the popularity of Pickle Ball in South Burlington and asked for several consideraons to create more opportunies for play. 1. SB High School courts are owned by the City and open for public use outside of the High School tennis season. The group would like for there to be pickle lines added to these courts. Other area high school courts have these lines added. 2. Chamberlin indoor courts are used in the winter and the group would like to have some tape added that could be left for the winter season. Currently they put down and remove the tape each time that they play. This space is controlled by the school. Holly will introduce the group to the school and perhaps there is an opportunity for an educational component around physical education and Pickle Ball. The group also noted that the lighting in the Chamberlin gym is often dark with several lights out. 3. Dorset park asphalt pad is another alternative for Pickle Ball. While there are many options for this space, the group would like it to be considered for Pickle Ball. They estimate that 3 to 4 pickle ball courts could fit on this pad. Minor work would be needed: minor crack filling, surface coating, line painting, posts and nets, baseline fencing and windscreens. This area will be considered in the overall long term planning of Veteran’s Park. The group is energized and ready to help create courts and programs. ● Next Steps: Holly will investigate immediate possibilities and will invite the group back to a future meeting for further discussion.
