HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Recreation and Parks Committee - 06/07/2017Wednesday, June 7, 2017 South Burlington Municipal Offices, 575 Dorset Street MEETING MINUTES for Regular Monthly Meeng Members Present: Bey Milizia, Melissa Cuke, Kae Kain, Sean Devine, Lisa Yankowski and Gwen Kozlowski Also Present: Holly Rees (NRC Staff Liaison - SB Recreaon & Parks Assistant Director), Jake (SB Recreaon & Parks intern) Absent: Russ Agne, Krisn Williams, David Crawford The meeng was called to order at 6:05 pm. 1) Reviewed Emergency Evacuaon Protocol 2) Addions, deleons or changes in order of agenda items. No addions, deleons or changes were made to the proposed agenda. 3) Comments from the public not related to the agenda.There were no comments from the public. 4) Approval of meeng minutesMelissa Cuke made a moon to approve the May 2017 minutes, Sean Devine seconded. Meeng minutes for Maywere approved unanimously. 5) Staff Update –Falcons at Red Rocks, Herbicide educaon inquiry, Weed Warrior Event, Scope of work for WVPD/VYCC summer 2017, dog park relocaon, conference room update. · Peregrine falcons at Red Rocks- the pair are incubang, can lead to possible hatch; signage has been taken down and/or graffi’d, but new signs are in place · Herbicide educaon inquiry- Cizen requested informaon on a city-wide policy of herbicide applicaon (there is not currently one in place). Would like an alternave to share with homeowner associaon that had applied herbicide. · Dog park- Kirby road dog park closed. Two smaller parks will open at Farrell, JC park “people” parks. No date for opening yet. · Conference room will have second egress built- progress to start maybe next week. · Weed Warrior- Holly will check in with Ashley, may need assistance with next event · SE group to contract for master plan for Underwood parcel. Visioning has been complete- next step will be public input from community members and stakeholders · Scope of work i. VYCC will be at Red Rocks: legimize social trails, migate mudding secon, repair trail tread on the trail, waterbar & drainage structure repair, replace small culvert ii. Winooski Valley Park District at Red Rocks: new bike racks, remove all old signage, replace with new wayfinding signs iii. WVPD at Wheeler: invasive removal, bike racks, trail repair 6) Commiee Member Updates- Bey ( Green Up Day) (6:30-6:40) Dave, Krisn, Bey had a table at Green up day- shared info with parcipants. 7) Leadership Meeng Update- Melissa All commiees shared work plans. DRB values NRC input. · Planning commission listed 5 projects: open space, scenic views, energy sing, wildlife and habitat corridors · Needs challenges from commiees: funding, partnerships: private/public, people power. · Next step: post work plans online. Update work plan on annual basis. · Make connecons between commiees- have NRC commiee members assigned to other commiees to review agenda and minutes and share out at meengs -Energy commiee- Melissa -Bike/ped- Kae -Rec/parks-? -DRB- Bey/Sean -City center-? -Planning commission- Bey · Review mission statement, have comments for next meeng to Bey 8) Sub-Commiee Reports- allowing for 10 minutes to report back and brainstorm on each of the five themesadopted on the NRC work plan. Discussed and reviewed acon ideas of work plan. · Invasive species- Kae- received dra Integrated pest management developed by Craig i. Next step: look at Burlington, state regs, review red rocks plan, meet with Craig ii. Holly will research next step on how to proceed and moving policy forward · Trees- Gwen/Bey- will meet with Craig to idenfy priories to support his work · Habitat connecvity- Melissa- researched educaon and advocacy opportunies 9) Agenda Building Roundtable Edit and finalize mission statement. 10) Next meeng date- July 12, 6pm. 11) Adjourn.
