JULY 21, 2014
MINUTES
The Recreation and Leisure Arts Committee and Red Rocks Committees held a combined meeting on
July 21, 2014. The meeting began at 5:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Joe Frank, Edie Robenstein, Liz Robitatille, Linda Janes, Laura DeMaroney, Lisa Yankowski,
Glenn Sproul, Jennifer Kochman
ALSO PRESENT: Todd Goodwin, Recreation Director
1. Joint Meeting:
Eric Alling, Greg Edwards, and Nora Barhew of Stantec Consulting Services, Peter Keeting from
the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission led this part of the meeting. Stantec is conducting
an Access Improvement Study of South Burlington Parks, using the ADA checklist. Issues are any barriers
and estimated costs for improvements to meet ADA guidelines.
Site visits and preliminary evaluations were made at:
Community Dog Park, Veterans Memorial Park (formerly Dorset Park), Farrell Park, Jaycee Park, Red
Rocks Park, Szymanski Park, The Homestead at Wheeler Nature Park.
Members of the committees offered comments, suggestions, and questions for each park.
Stantec will begin more detailed visits next week. Lisa Yankowski offered to join them at Red Rocks Park.
The report will be completed at the end of the summer.
The Recreation and Leisure Arts Committee part of the meeting began at 6:20 p.m.
2. The minutes of the June 16 meeting were approved as written
3. The Recreation and Leisure Arts Committee was asked to appoint a representative to serve on the
Underwood Task Force. The Task Force will provide a proposal for the future use of the property to the
City Council by Jan. 1, 2015. The Task Force will have 9 members representing 5 committees and 4 at-
large members appointed by the City Council. Glenn will be our representative, Liz will be the alternate.
All members can attend the meetings.
4. At our previous meeting, we recommended recreation items be included in the Planning
Commission’s proposed Land Development Regulations (LDR). Jennifer asked us to discuss several items
in the draft proposal, noting that our recommendations were included in the definition of Open Space.
Jennifer will present our views to the Planning Commission. We can also make comments online on the
city’s web site.

6. Next meeting is September 15. There won’t be an August meeting.
