Donna Leban provided a presentation on light as an architectural and/or sculptural element and the way that she
has observed it used in public and private spaces, inside and outside of buildings.
4. City Staff Report
In the interest of me, no staff report was provided.
5. Public Art Selection Process – SoBu Spaces Project
Ilona Blanchard provided an overview of the Call for Art to the Committee. Michele suggested that clarification
be provided regarding what is required for a maquette versus conceptual. She also mentioned that a call for art
issued by Randolph included a statement to the effect that the art selected would “provide an environment that
Vermont is welcoming”.
There was a discussion regarding the selection of multiple artist versus a single artist and multiple pieces for the
building.
The Call should specify that it is open to an artist or team of artists.
The Artist should speak to what they would do with the whole budget or a portion of the budget, and whether
their work would address one or multiple spaces in the budget.
Note that the Senior Center, as it is called out in the program, will be a used by Seniors from 8 AM – 4 PM and
scheduled for the general public during the rest of the time and art proposed for that area does not have to be
addressed to Seniors.
Words that speak to the interest of the Committee would be inspirational/engaging.
The Committee also discussed the timeline, and how to best word the description of one versus multiple
projects. Michele will provide some language.
Jennifer moved to accept the Call to Art with revisions and Amanda seconded it.
6. Adjourn
Jennifer Kochman moved to adjourn the meeting and the meeting was adjourned at 8 PM.
