Market Street Reconstruction Project – Process.
I. Blanchard provided a report on the site orientation provided to the artists which included a presentation, tour
of the site (Market Street future stormwater pond and the Dumont Parcel). The orientation was also attended by
the landscape architect for the Market Street project.
The Committee discussed a potential tour of City Center for the Committee and that a good time would be at
noon. I. Blanchard to doodle committee and set up a tour.
The April meeting was set for April 13th with a tentative recommendation to the City Council for
commissioning the Market Street Public Art on April 17th.
Committee members will receive a hardcopy of the submittal material.
The public comment being sought was discussed along with the format and the decision was made that questions
to the public should be open-ended soliciting their reactions to the potential works.
Garden Street Project – Williston Road Intersection Phase – Overview and discussion.
I. Blanchard provided an overview of this portion of the project using a rendering of the planned geometric
changes to the roadway/streetscape.
The Committee reviewed the various changes and made several observations:
· The wall is the nicest element of the area today.
· A lot of people cross at Hinesburg Road because there is no other crossing for pedestrians along
Williston Road in the vicinity, i.e. this is the only place the neighborhood can use due the lack of
crosswalks generally on Williston Road.
· The planned space by White Street is visible to many areas, and across the street from Als French Fries.
· Commi ee members had seen eye catching sculpture at other loca ons; this is a gateway and deserves
a bold piece.
· Or a funny piece.
· And/or energy genera ng piece.
· Really really funny
· It is a very urban area, maybe a something in juxtaposi on and is very natural?
· It would be good to s mulate a Garden compe on.
