Future Bernie Paquette Visit: Milizia will invite Bernie Paquette to a future meeting to talk about his efforts to clean up litter in South Burlington neighborhoods. Rain Barrel Workshop: The workshop, scheduled for this Sunday, June 7th, has full registration with 30 registered attendees and a short waiting list. Some help washing the barrels on Friday would be welcome. 5/6/15 Minutes: Dickson moved to approve the draft minutes and Agne seconded. The motion passed unanimously. John Painter: Painter was unable to attend the meeting tonight. The Committee will reschedule his visit for a future meeting. Wheeler Nature Park Management Plan: Clemins and LaRose are working on finding an opportune time to submit the Wheeler Nature Park Management Plan to City Council as their future agendas are currently rather full and we would like City Council to give The Wheeler Nature Park Management Plan full consideration. The Recreation and Leisure Arts Committee reviewed the Wheeler Nature Park Management Plan and replied to Milizia with comments from the committee. The Committee decided that we will collect all comments on The Plan until we receive a response from the City Council, at which time, The Committee will revise The Plan to address accumulated comments. Update: Comprehensive Plan: LaRose gave an update on the progress of revising the Comprehensive Plan. The first draft of the revision is on the Planning Commission’s agenda for their meeting next week. The public comment period on the next draft, expected to be at least 30 days, is expected to start in late June to early July. LaRose will be in touch with The Committee to schedule a meeting early in the public comment period so that The Committee can compose a response. Update: Wheeler Park Walk: Milizia thought the walk was very informative and that the information will be helpful as we discuss the Comprehensive Plan. Update: South Burlington’s 150th Anniversary: The Committee decided to host at least one nature walk through The Wheeler Nature Park during the 150th Anniversary celebration on August 15-16. LaRose will forward contact information for the organizational team to The Committee. Action Items: · Clemins and LaRose: Submit the approved Wheeler Nature Park Management Plan to City Council. · Milizia and LaRose: Schedule (Reschedule) visits from the Fellowship of the Wheel and Bernie Paquette at a future Committee meeting. · LaRose: Contact the Recreation Department about putting up trail signs and removing unauthorized / inappropriate trails at Wheeler Park. · Michaels: Reach out to the Energy Committee regarding the Georgetown University Energy Prize and how our Committee could help. · LaRose: Send 150th Anniversary Event organizing team contact information to The Committee so a Wheeler Park walk can be organized. Next Meetings: The Natural Resources Committee normally meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be: · July 1, 6:00pm – Walkthroughs of the natural areas of the Underwood Property and Dumont Park. If the Planning Commission releases a draft of the Comprehensive Plan for public comment, The Committee will assemble a response that draft instead of doing the walkthroughs. Meeting adjourned at 7:02pm. Respectfully submitted, Patrick Clemins
