Mee ng Minutes
July 6, 2017
Commi ee members present: Marcy Murray (Chair) James Mount (Vice-Chair), Fred Kosnitsky, Don Cummings, Karen
McKenny (Scribe), Linda McGinnis, Keith Epstein, Pa y Tashiro

Comments from the Public: none
May Mee ng Minutes: due to a lack of a quorum at the last mee ng the May mee ng minutes were reviewed and
approved this month.
James moved and Don seconded a mo on to approve the May 4th mee ng minutes. Approved unanimously.
June 1st Mee ng Notes: James moved and Don seconded a mo on to approve the June 1st mee ng notes. Approved
unanimously with revisions suggested by Keith via Marcy.
June 19th Mee ng Minutes: James moved and Don seconded a mo on to approve the June 16 Transporta on mee ng
minutes. Approved unanimously.
Project updates: (see document emailed earlier for complete updates)
CityFest: Don has reached out to partners for par cipa on and is wai ng to hear back from some. (EVT and VGS are a
yes, GMP maybe). Sugges on to invite electric car dealers—Don will follow up. Keith suggested we ask EVT about NESTs
for a giveaway, he will follow up. Pa y has offered to donate light bulbs and offer shower heads. Don would like to update
the brochure to include transporta on ps. Keith has offered to follow up with several other partners. Don has 4 people
signed up to help on the day but would like one more. If you can table that day please let Don know.
Don moved for an authoriza on of up to $500 for CityFest materials to include posters and an updated brochure. Fred
seconded. Approved unanimously
Solar Consor um Funds
Linda reviewed our Solar Consor um funds to date. More funds are an cipated from another partner. To date there are
$5,570 in the fund. Linda to follow up with SBHS to set up a group of students interested in coming up with a solar-related
project for the funds. A plaque with our solar partners’ names and thanks should be part of the project—with added
emphasis given to Suncommon for its significant number of installa ons. Linda will explore monetary or electrical-line-
digging support from GMP and monetary support from Kevin Dorn to help fund a poten al EV charger on school
grounds. She will also ask the school district to follow the city’s recent efforts by se ng up a revolving energy-efficiency
project fund using solar-related savings.
Consolida on of Waste Collec on Service in SB ini a ve: Discussed Tom Chi enden’s request to the commi ee to
endorse and support this ini a ve.
Karen moved to support Marcy dra ing a le er of general support to City Council for exploring this ini a ve. Pa y
seconded. Approved unanimously.
Climate Change Ac on: Fred presented his suggested text for a proposal to City Council regarding two issues. 1: The City
of South Burlington joining the VT Climate Pledge Coali on along with other municipali es and groups across the state. 2:
The development of a climate ac on plan by the City of South Burlington.
A resolu on was dra ed regarding these issues.
James moved to send the resolu on dra ed for City Council to consider and approve joining the VT Climate Pledge
Coali on and to consider the development of a Climate Ac on Plan. Linda seconded. Unanimously approved.
Transporta on and Net Zero project considera on: Keith and Don presented an overview of poten al projects for both
of these avenues of interest. Keith discussed organizing a Net Zero conference; James suggested mee ng one on one with
developers. Linda had several detailed projects including electric car purchasing and infrastructure, and park and ride
areas. She will send along a bulleted outline of each for considera on. Rosanne also discussed working on the lack of
ridership of city school buses and on student/parent driving to school. If you are interested in being a champion on a
project or working on one of them please let Keith know for Net Zero and Don know for transporta on.
Orienta on Guide for new members: Karen and Marcy dra ed orienta on materials for the commi ee. Keith, Ilona,
James and Marcy had several edits that Marcy will make. These materials will be used to orient new members to the
commi ee moving forward.
Change to mee ng mes: The Doodle poll indicated that most members preferred star ng the mee ng at 6:30 and
running for 2 hours. Marcy will communicate the change to Ilona for the city website.
James moved that we change our mee ng me to 6:30-8:30. Keith seconded. Unanimously approved.
Opening mee ng law and planning commission le er agenda items tabled un l the next mee ng.
