Convene
Keith convened at 6:40, Sam Swanson as scribe. Keith Epstein as timekeeper
We reviewed the meeting agenda and decided to add a presentation on the South Burlington
High School yard sign design before UVM student presentation on a solar-ready roof proposal.
Because a quorum requires six Committee members and only five Committee members were
present the Committee was unable to take any actions. The meeting proceeded to collect
information and discuss progress on the Energy Prize Campaign.
Invited Public to Speak: All guests were there to address agenda items. No one accepted the
invitation to speak at this point in the meeting.
South Burlington High School Yard Sign Design Competition
Monica Ostby and Philip Galigia described the solar yard sign design competition among South
Burlington High School students. They introduced the winning yard sign design that was
proposed by Chloe Zinn a freshman at SB High. Chloe described her approach to developing the
winning yard sign design.
The Committee members voiced appreciation to Chloe and all who participated in the design
competition. Keith provided Chloe and others from South Burlington High School with Energy
Prize lapel pins.
The Committee members expressed a desire to post the finalist entries to the sign competition
on the Energy Prize website.

UVM Student presentation of a proposal for a City of South Burlington Solar-ready
Roof Mandate
A team of UVM students (Larissa Del Rosso Rayher, Enzo Cortet, Shannan Webb, Quin Mann,
Brigitte Gagne) from the UVM Environmental Studies Program presented the results of their
investigation of the benefits and costs of requiring new construction to include provisions for
the installation of rooftop solar energy equipment.
The UVM student team prepared the study as a part of their NR206 course.
The student made the presentation to the Energy Committee members seeking feedback that
will enable them to refine their presentation. They plan to present their report to the public on
at the Energy Prize Campaign “In It To Win Workshop” at the South Burlington Public Library on
April 13 and to the South Burlington Planning Commission on April 14. The public presentation is
supported by a written report, draft copies of which have been provided to Don and Keith.
The Committee members thanked the UVM student team for their work and offered
constructive comments for improving the presentation. Keith presented the team with Energy
Prize lapel pins.
GUEP Update and Discussion
Keith led the Committee members in reviewing the written South Burlington Energy Prize
Monthly update for April that he had circulated earlier this week for Committee review. We
discussed each item and provided feedback to the person responsible for each item where such
feedback was requested or appropriate.
The circulation of a written report based on contributions of Energy Prize volunteers enabled
the Committee members to consider the progress reports on twenty-two work items in
relatively short time.
Marcy Murray distributed the first quarterly finance report for the Energy Prize Campaign. She
reported that the Energy Prize campaign has so far received commitments for contributions of
$31,000. She provided an itemized report of first quarter expenditures totaling $2,854.08 and
indicated we now have $21,895.92 in funds on hand.
Keith distributed a supply of Energy Prize lapel pins to members of the Energy Prize campaign
team suggesting we distribute them to people who contribute to the campaign.
At the end of the meeting a question arose about the appropriate placement of the “Endorsed
by the South Burlington Energy Prize Campaign” in literature printed by solar business partners.
We decided to revisit this at the May meeting.
Adjourned at 8:26 PM
The next Energy Committee Meeting is scheduled for May 7 beginning at 6:30 PM.
