Committee meeting 10/11/18
Members present:
Barb Sirvis (at large), Elizabeth (Betty) Milizia (NRC member), Linda Chiasson (at large), Robin Cruz (at
large), Mike Simoneau (RPC member), and Larry Kupferman (at large)

Public: none
Maggie briefed the committee on safety procedures to exit the building if necessary.
Committee introduced each other and held a team building exercise.
Barb suggested that the committee abide by a culture of fact based discussion, respectful interactions, and try to
reach consensus on decisions. If consensus cannot be reached, then majority vote will take place while all
minority views to be represented in any report to the City Council. Committee members agreed.
Barb, Betty and Linda were members of the previous Dog Park Task Force and helped prepare the Dog Park
Task Force report and selection matrix to City Council on June 25, 2018. Council asked Barb to chair/facilitate
the new Dog Park Committee. Betty volunteered to be vice-chair and Larry volunteered to clerk for this meeting,
suggesting that the clerk role rotate among the members.
Barb provided a slide presentation previously made before the City Council about things learned from the Jaycee
Dog Park (located at Jaycee Park) and why South Burlington needs/wants dog parks.
Next steps: committee members review the selection matrix, the June, 2018 report to City Council and visit sites
such as Farrell Park and Veterans Park with the matrix in mind.
Next meeting: Monday, 10/22 at 5 pm at City Hall with an emphasis on strategic planning.
