MINUTES 07-13-2016
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Commi ee held its regular monthly mee ng on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 5:30 pm in the
small conference room at the city office building.
Members Present: Dana Farr, Chair; Cathy Frank, Vice-Chair; Jamieson Goodwin, Clerk; Amanda Holland, Roy Neuer
Members Absent: Bob Bri , Donna Leban
City Representa ve: Holly Baker, Assistant Director of Recrea on & Parks
Also Present: Ted Riehle – member of South Burlington Planning Commission
Mee ng began at 5:30 pm.
1. Changes to Agenda – None
2. Approval of June mee ng minutes – Amanda requested an amendment in priori es (sec on 5). Clarifica on.
Cathy mo on, Jamieson second. Unanimous approval.
3. Comments from public not related to Agenda – Ted R. – Expressed interest in the commi ee and its efforts. Also
spoke about personal concerns rela ng to current and future accesses along Hinesburg Rd. Discussion con nued
around the poten al for paths to go along neighborhoods instead of along major thoroughfares, areas for
improvements for the commi ee and city, LDR impacts and similar topics.
4. SBBPC priori es map and report – Review of current dra map with priori es highlighted that were previously
iden fied. Discussion con nued around the iden fied priori es, crosswalk concurrency/ ming, and related
items. Roy and Cathy to setup next mee ng with Jus n Rabidoux and discuss next steps to facilitate informed
decision making so the commi ee can make the ul mate recommenda on to City Council and other
stakeholders. Amanda and Cathy to meet with GIS/city mapper and develop final map for external presenta on,
with the inclusion of more iden fied priori es – Holly to facilitate mee ng.
5. Review of infrastructure needing maintenance/repair: No progress reported at this me. Tabled for next
mee ng.
6. Updates from City: Holly Baker
a. Paul Conner would like to a end mee ng and discuss street classifica ons and LDRs.
b. New Rec ac vity: Bikes and Bites. Aug 18, Sep 1, and Sep 15 from 5-8. Designed to encourage use of Rec
Path. Music, Food, Fun. Commi ee discussing leading some short rides along the path.
c. Local Mo on providing Bike Valet Parking for Mozart fes vi es, request for commi ee to review Local
Mo on content on So Burl and provide feedback and work to increase awareness of these resources.
7. General Ma ers
a. Discussion: Policy and Safety Recommenda ons update – Bollards are up along Dorset near Songbird
Ln, but some are missing on east side of Dorset (northbound). Other areas being addressed as well.
Recommend reviewing placement and ensure sa sfactory. Updates on other items s ll coming in.
b. Discussion: Dana; Talking points
i. Local Mo on features map – Items to add? Recommend some family rides, or similar
ac vi es. Members will review and submit to Cathy.
ii. “Fix it” sta on offered by Healthy Living – Discussion about where to place the equipment.
Recommenda on for Overlook Park, all agreed.
iii. CIP plan recommenda ons request – Discussion about what falls into current CIP priori es.
Plan to review iden fied priori es for submission at next mee ng.
