HomeMy WebLinkAboutDraft Minutes - City Council - 08/20/2024 PAGE 1 DRAFT MINUTES SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL 20 August 24, 2024 The South Burlington City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday, 20 August 2024, at 4:00 p.m., in the Auditorium, 180 Market Street, and by Go to Meeting remote participation. MEMBERS PRESENT: T. Barritt, Chair; A. Chalnick, E. Fitzgerald, M. Scanlan ALSO PRESENT: J. Baker, City Manager; Chief S. Locke, Deputy City Manager; T. Tsutsuk, B. Britt, H. Reale, R. Doyle, D. Peters, S. Crowley, H. Gagne, J. Bossange, S. Higgins, R. Venkataraman, L. Brisson, T. Bailey 1. Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 2. Instructions on exiting building in case of emergency and review of technology option: Ms. Baker provided instructions on emergency exit from the building and reviewed technology options. 3. Comments and questions from the public not related to the agenda: No comments or questions were received. . 4. Conduct interviews with applicants for appointments to City Boards and Committees: Council members interviewed the following candidates for appointment to City Boards and Committees: a. M. J. Reale – Energy Committee (incumbent) – She said her focus on the Committee has been with community engagement and outreach b. Steve Crowley – Energy Committee (incumbent) – He has been part of the transportation review process c. Havaleh Gagne – Bike Ped Committee (incumbent) – Looks forward to dramatic connectivity in the community in coming years d. John Bossange – Natural Resources & Conservation Committee (incumbent) – Dealing with partnerships and communication e. Stephanie Higgins – Economic Development Committee – Cited the critical issue of housing. Could also be interested in the Energy Committee f. Timur Tsutsuk – Bike-Ped Committee – Cited the need for connectivity. g. Ravi Venkataraman – Recreation & Parks Committee (incumbent) – working on Parks Master Plan, hoping to increase options in underserved parts of the city. Cited the need for park upkeep. h. Bob Britt – Bike-Ped Committee (incumbent) – Cited the critical need for City Center infrastructure i. Leo Brisson – Recreation and Parks Committee – Wants to help younger and older residents to get involved in recreation j. Tom Bailey – Economic Development Committee (incumbent) – working on the Strategic Economic Development Plan. Stressed that issues are regional. Recommended a 9-person committee 5. Other Business: Mr. Barritt noted the second round of interviews will be tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. As there was no further business to come before the Council Mr. Chalnick moved to adjourn. Ms. Fitzgerald seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 6:03 p.m. _________________________________ Clerk
