Re: City Updates
Since the Committee’s meeting on June 12, 2024, I have the following updates to report on
behalf of City staff:
• Summer striping is nearly complete!
o Long lines complete as of 8/8/2024
o Crosswalks within ½ mile of all schools and across large roads (Williston Road,
Dorset Street, Kennedy drive) are being completed in more durable paint so they
won’t require restriping every year. These will be complete as of 8/9/2024.
o DPW crews continue to stripe stop bars and neighborhood crosswalks citywide.
• A citywide sidewalk and path condition assessment will begin within the next 6-8 weeks.
This is being completed by StreetScan and will be done using e-scooters fitted with
cameras and sensors. This will provide us with a condition assessment of all sidewalks
and paths and the ability to do more efficient maintenance and budget planning.
• Lots of bike lane signs have been ordered to be installed around the City, with a focus on
the ones striped last year (particularly Spear Street).
• The Active Transportation Plan is in the project development and prioritization phase.
The final public meeting will be towards the end of September, a presentation to Council
will be in November or December, and the plan should be completed in January.
• The State’s paving project of Route 116 includes RRFB’s at the 3 crosswalks between
Kennedy Drive and Williston Road. This is planned for 2025 construction.
• Project Updates (2025 will be a busy construction year!)
o We kicked off preliminary design for the Spear Street path. This will include more
design on the stormwater treatment, honing in on the limits of disturbance and

ROW, and getting an updated cost estimate. The planned submission for this is
the first week of September.
o Easements continue to trickle in on the Dorset Street path. Planned construction
is Summer/Fall 2025.
o The Mary Street sidewalk conceptual design has been submitted to staff for review.
Planned construction is Summer 2025.
o The Bike/Ped Bridge continues towards Contract Plans and is on track for 2025-
2026 construction.
o City Center Park Boardwalk bid documents are in development for 2025
construction.
o Hubbard RNA path went to DRB on 8/6/2024. Their decision should be issued in
about 2 weeks.
