MEMORANDUM
To: South Burlington Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee
From: Erica Quallen, DPW Deputy Director of Capital Projects
Date: March 13, 2024
Re: City Updates
Since the Committee’s meeting on February 14, 2024, I have the following updates to report on
behalf of City staff:
•The City Center Park Boardwalk Project is in final design and draft bid documents
have been developed. This is on track for bid advertisement in Spring 2024.
•The Spear Street Path received initial environmental clearance from the State and will
now continue into Preliminary Design.
•I-89 Bike/Ped Bridge is in Final Design and continues on schedule for construction to
begin in FY25.
•FY24 Line Striping RFP is posted with the following fog line/bike lanes (there are other
dashed lines and center lines included):
o Patchen Road
o Williston Road
o Allen Road
•The FY25 Budget passed on Town Meeting Day with the following line items approved
related to bike/ped work:
o All CIP projects as proposed
o Striping - $50,000 (up from $40,000 in FY24)
o Curbs and Sidewalks - $40,000 (up from $2,000 in FY24)
o Bike/Ped Maintenance - $50,000 (up from $40,000 in FY24)
•Larkin Terrace and Farrell Estate Updates
180 MARKET STREET, SOUTH BURLINGTON, VERMONT | (802) 846-4107 | WWW.SOUTHBURLINGTONVT.GOV
o The Larkin Master Plan is proceeding mostly as shown when the Committee
reviewed the plan. The DRB was ok with not adding a path connecting to the
Farrell Estate Plan since there were wetland impacts and difficult railroad
crossings which would occur.
o The Farrell Estate project is still in sketch plan review and the Committee is
welcome to comment on the plans. They are considering adding a path
connection from Bartlett Bay Road to Inn Road which was discussed by the
Committee during your previous review.
