HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Public Art Selection Committee - 01/16/2024 PAGE 1 SOUTH BURLINGTON PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES January 16, 2024 The South Burlington PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE held a regular meeting on Tuesday, JANUARY 16, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 310, 180 Market Street, and by remote participation. Members present: Penne Tompkins (Chair), John Killacky, Sebastian Ryder, Ilona Blanchard (staff, non-voting), Sophia Babbitt, Amanda Holland, Jean Sebastien Chaulot, Tim Barritt (Council Liaison) Members not present: Michele Bailey (Vermont Art Council Representative, non-voting) Also present: None Meeting convened at 5:32pm 1. Penne reviewed the emergency procedures and added an update on the RFP for Cultural Plan to the agenda at John’s request. 2. Amanda was identified as minutes taker. 3. Minutes from December 19, 2023 were moved to approval. Motion by Jean and seconded by John, approved unanimously. Chair Report 4. Jaycee Park: The Committee’s recommendation to City Council to commission the Mohrman Lo art piece for Jayce Park will be presented this evening at the Council’s meeting. Penne will be in attendance and will reiterate the work of the Committee and feedback received by community members. 5. Public Gallery Show Opening: New exhibit is up in the gallery space. An opening is being planned for February. Workplan Updates 6. Curator Call: The Committee reviewed the draft Call for Curator with revisions by Penne since last meeting. Noted the appointment would be slated for after March 30th. 7. DRB: Amanda, John and Sebastian met with City staff to the DRB to discuss inclusion of PAC in development review: Amanda provided the Committee with a summary of the discussion. Marla Keene, DRB staff, is willing to train Committee members in how to read agendas and reports to identify if there are any projects that would be of interest to the committee for comment. Penne, John and Amanda will schedule a follow-up meeting with staff to work on next steps. CITY COUNCIL MEETING MONTH XX, 2023 | PAGE 2 8. Staff Report: Illuminate Vermont (weekend before the April Eclipse) has vendor applications going out (1/18) and planning this year includes a smaller indoor vending space, smaller stage, and more outdoor vendor space. 9. Cultural Plan RFP: John asked for an update on process; Ilona stated the draft RFP is awaiting staff review. Activity on this is on hold to confirm the timing of if project will receive ARPA funding.
