HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Energy Committee - 09/13/2023Energy Committee meeting - Sept 13, 2023
Present: Tim, MJ, Carrie, Sam, Keith, Rob, Franz, Ethan, Fred, Nick (staff) Lou (staff)
Remotely: Sam Lipschutz
Members of the public: Sam Swanson
Motion to accept the minutes from last meeting: Keith move MJ seconds - minutes pass unanimously
●Festival planning
○SBEC will have a table - need to staff it
○Lou volunteered to print 4 pages of excerpts from CAP presentation
○Ethan is giving a 20 min presentation on the CAP at the festival
○Could pay to boost the FB notification to certain ZIP codes
○Need to start setting up at 8:30 for 10-2:00 events, stay until 3:00 or 3:30
○City is staging barricades at ends of Market St the night before, then in the
morning they will close the street at 8am
○City is figuring out how they can block off the parking spots that would be used
by exhibitors will use; not sure if they can tow.
○Vendors will be set up by 9:45; barricade trucks will be able to move and let them
in
○Nick will check to see if EC folks can use the kitchen to prepare food for their
own lunch
○Do we need someone to manage EV demos? There will be private vehicles and
dealer vehicles. Some of the dealers expressed interest, but only one has
committed and signed paperwork. Keith is managing the E-bike demo group.
Need to figure out the advice for people bringing EVs to demo.
■Franz will help organize the EV demo: show up at 9, maybe not needed
to stay until the end though; 9-12 planned.
○City has a PA system for announcing the raffle and introducing the musicians.
One musician might plug into the PA. We need a person to MC: Fred will do the
morning but we need someone else in the afternoon.
○How is the raffle pull working? Someone other than the MC picks a ticket? What
is the order for prize drawings? Note that tickets are free but they have to give us
contact info [suggest that we make it clear we will contact them]
○Might want to have a “floater” who can relieve people from their posts and help
out.
○Need one person in each presentation room to keep speakers on schedule.
○How will vendors know where to set up? Will the spots be marked or will the
vendors need to find Steve? Can share the map with exhibitors ahead of time.
○Where will the bouncy house go? Away from food! Maybe towards one of the
ends so it’s not blocking the middle of the pedestrian way.
○Do we need more volunteers? Waiting for students to get back to us. Sunrise
Movement has not responded.
○Will someone take photos and video? Good to have video of the workshops.
Anyone have a friend with a drone? Paul G? Press has been notified; press
release is being issued.
○CCRPC and regional energy committees have been notified.
○Reviewing the budget
○What sort of giveaways for the booth? Lou suggests candy to lure kids to the
table.
○Need to figure out how much to budget for smoothies; how many smoothies per
hour? How much fruit in each one? Suggest skipping the dairy.
○Can we borrow a first aid kit from the city?
○Some question about multiple line items for printed materials at the booth;
duplicative?
○Considering paying ~$100 for a boosted post on FB.
○Steve: how are we providing info about the CAP that is engaging and
informative?
○Ethan: keep it simple: we have a plan, join us
○Steve: provide a few bullet points that everyone can do
○Keith moves that we approve $5k for Energy Festival, Steve seconds.
Unanimously approved.
●Treasurer election
○Tim explains what the treasurer does - coordinates with Martha (city staff)
○Rob volunteers to be nominated for treas.
○Fred moves that Rob be treas through the end of 2023, Carrie seconds.
Approved unanimously.
○Rob is having trouble editing documents in the GDrive committee folder; Nick will
look into it.
●Lou’s presentation on charging station grant (PPT on google drive)
○City is applying for grants to build charging stations on two locations, funding up
to $35k for 4 ports at each location: Public Works and Police.
○Note that the actual cost may exceed $35k, particularly if we want to put in more
than 4 ports.
○GMP is offering these grants, first come, first served - grant applications are in
and GMP hopes to fund all comers.
○Does the change to Tesla NACS chargers make a difference? Too soon to tell,
and we can change later if needed; most expense is running power to locations
and upgrading the building service.
●Lou: Act 172 funding application for Wheeler House application
○Funds are prioritized for smaller towns so our odds are not good
○However, the first phase of the application gets you a free level 2 audit, which is
well worth the trouble, so we are trying.
●Lou showed the pie chart for municipal emissions
○Keith suggests increasing the font size
●Lou showed a poster about the PV generation and where it’s used
○Keith suggests aligning chart with calendar year
○Fred suggests dumbing it down for the public
○Rob suggests a pie chart that shows how much of the city’s electricity comes
from PV
○Lou says there is a chart planned that shows how much of 180 Market comes
from GMP and how much comes from PV
○Fred: simple message: city is doing good things and (with support) can do more
