I have lived in the same house for nearly 25 years. My concerns regarding the smoke from Myer's Bagels are two fold. First, depending upon which way the wind is blowing, the stench can sometimes be very noxious. Twice now when I have detected smoke, I have run downstairs thinking that I had left something burning on my kitchen stove only to realize that the smoke was actually coming from Myer's Bagels. It was that intense. Depending upon the wind currents, some days it is very oppressive while other days it is hardly noticeable. My second concern is of more importance and shared equally among the denizens of this street. Poor air quality can have dire health effects, especially over the long term. Similar to the Canadian forest fires, the inhalation of smoke is not just irritating--it is dangerous. Part of the problem is that the houses on this street are built up a ten foot embankment from Myer's Bagels. Thus, the smoke from the chimney at Myer's Bagels does not rise up and over our houses as it would if we were on the same elevation. Rather, it bellows out their chimney and then comes directly into our doors and windows. I am hoping that this issue can be resolved in an easy and peaceful fashion for all parties involved. Thank you, Ben Hewat -- Bob Payson bpayson@fastmail.fm
