RE: Hannaford Replacement of Ginko Trees with Locust Trees and Project Update
Dear Marty,
Please find enclosed a Site Plan Application for replacement of the 13 Ginko trees at
Hannaford’s at 935 Shelburne Road. The Ginko trees along the front of the plaza have
not stood up to heat well due to their location and have been replaced before, but we’d
like to replace them now with the shade master Locust trees which are currently within
the parking lot. The Locust trees have proven more heat tolerant and will provide a nice
streetscape across the front of the plaza. Providing you find the exchange acceptable;
I’ve also enclosed a Zoning Permit Application for physical work. Fees for both
applications are attached to the respective applications.
In further review of the project, it was noticed that the latest Findings of Fact and
Decision was prior to the project being fully completed and that no Final CO was ever
issued for the site. In order to bring the project to completion, the application and plans
are not only for replacement of the Ginko trees but to update the plans to all of the
prior modifications. Those modification included the below:
• Minor sidewalk modifications.
• Minor modifications to the sidewalk bollards.
• Minor crosswalk modifications.
• The addition of cart storage in front of the grocery store.
• The addition of a flagpole and a picnic table.
• The relocation of bike racks.
• The addition of a compost bin enclosure.

• The addition of an electrical Transformer, emergency generator, and electric
cabinet.
• The addition of a compactor and loading dock slab with retaining walls.
• A roof overhang over the vendor dock area.
• Tenant sidewalk area for access,
• Removal of asphalt pavement replaced with crushed stone.
Although the list might be extensive, the modifications were minor and required for the
operation and betterment of the project.
We respectively request that the City approve the exchange of the trees to better suit
the site and review the minor site modifications. Once that occurs, we’d remove the
Ginko trees and add the Locust trees and install another bike rack on the site to meet
City standards. Once all the work has occurred, we’d call for a final inspection of the
entire site so we can get the LOC released that was placed when the project was
originally approved.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
J.M. Lord, P.E.
