HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 05/21/2007CITY COUNCIL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING 21 MAY 2007 The South Burlington City Council held an organizational meeting on Monday, 21 May 2007, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room, City Hall, 575 Dorset St. Members Present: C. Smith, S. Magowan, M. Boucher, D. O'Rourke, S. Dooley Also Present: C. Hafter, City Manager; D. Gravelin, Assistant City Manager; D. Kinville, City Clerk; J. B. Hinds, Director of Planning & Zoning; G. Dow, Wastewater Department; A. Parent, The Other Paper; F. Murray 1. Administration of Oath of Office: Ms. Kinville administered the Oath of Office to Mr. Smith and Ms. Dooley. 2. Election of Officers: Mr. Hafter presided over the election of officers. He opened the floor for nominations for Council Chair. Mr. Magowan nominated Mr. Smith. Mr. O'Rourke seconded. There were no further nominations, and Mr. Smith was elected unanimously. Mr. O'Rourke nominated Mr. Magowan for Vice Chair. Mr. O'Rourke seconded. There were no further nominations, and Mr. Magowan was elected unanimously. Mr. O'Rourke nominated Ms. Dooley for Council Clerk. Mr. Magowan seconded. There were no further nominations, and Ms. Dooley was elected unanimously. Mr. Smith presided over the rest of the meeting. 3. Set Time and Place for Regular Meeting; Approval of Annual Meeting Schedule: Mr. Magowan moved that the Council meet on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. with the exception of July and August when they will meet on the third Monday of the month. Mr. Boucher seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 4. Annual Appointments to be Made by Majority Vote of City Council Pursuant to City Charter, Chapter 3, Section 301(2): Mr. Hafter read the list of appointments as follows: City Treasurer Donna Kinville incumbent Assistant City Treasurer Dennis Gravelin incumbent City Attorney Stitzel & Page incumbent Zoning Administrator Ray Belair incumbent Asst. Zoning Administrators Cathyann LaRose incumbent Elisabeth McDonough incumbent Auditor Angolano & Company incumbent First Constable Sgt. Paul Edwards incumbent Second Constable Det. Andrew Chaulk incumbent Grand Juror Charles Hafter incumbent City Agent & Trustee of Public Funds Charles Hafter incumbent Mr. Hafter advised that all incumbents are willing to serve again. Mr. Magowan moved to approve the appointments as presented. Mr. O'Rourke seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 5. Information on Appointments to be Made by City Council in June and July: Mr. Hafter distributed a list of appointments. He said he will check to see if these incumbents are willing to continue to serve.
