City of South Burlington Development Review Planner 180 Market Street South Burlington, VT 05403 RE: 1068 Williston Road - Holiday Inn Redevelopment (#SP-19-50) CWD Comments & Conditions Resolution – Part II Dear Marla: Champlain Water District (CWD) issued comments and conditions on the Proposed Site Plans submitted by Champlain School Apartments Partnership (CSAP) for 1068 Williston Road, South Burlington, VT in a letter dated January 7, 2020 with additional follow-up comments included in a letter dated March 10, 2022. These letters identified two conditions, #3 and #4, that required field verification and potential redesign. CSAP has to CWD’s satisfaction addressed the field verification and applicable redesign for these conditions. Original comments and conditions related to items #3 and #4 are provided below as well as the comments from the March 10, 2022 letter shown in italics, and the current resolution of these items, shown in bold. 3. CWD will need to review and approve all elevations, grading, and profiles as it impacts our transmission main. This information was missing from the DRB submittal and therefore cannot be reviewed without further information. CWD has reviewed all elevations, grading and profiles and is satisfied with the design drawings. a. Further clarification is required on the potential conflict with CWD’s transmission main and Drainage Manhole 1 (DMH 1), located to the southwest of the Proposed Hampton Inn. The location of DMH1 needs to be verified in the field. CWD will be present when this work occurs to provide approval of the final location. The proposed location of DMH-1A (f.k.a. DMH-1) has been redesigned and includes an additional structure, DMH-1B, both of which have proposed locations outside of CWD’s easement. Construction of these two DMH’s will temporarily impact lands within the CWD easement; therefore, CWD will need to be present when this construction occurs. 4. The Contractor shall provide sheeting/shoring support during structural excavation for the Proposed Hampton Inn, when excavation is within 10’ of the CWD transmission main. CWD will also need to be present during the excavation and construction of the Proposed Hampton Inn due to its close proximity to the High Service Transmission Main. Exploratory excavation will need to be conducted to verify the location of bends and thrust blocks. Native soil material behind thrust blocks shall not be disturbed during construction. Exploratory excavation in May of 2022 verified the location of High Service Transmission Main bends and thrust blocks.
