Meeting was called to order at 4:15 by Bill Barber.
No Changes or additions to the agenda
No Comments from the public not related to the agenda
There were no motions to vote on and the agenda was to walk the active side of Veteran’s
Memorial and identify outstanding maintenance issues in the park. A following list was created
during the walk.
Maintenance Safety Audit Veterans Park
• Remove graffiti/gang tags from garbage cans and bench
• At grade access to nature trail
• Remove stickers from dog station
• Repair green bike racks/remove graffiti/gang tags
• Remove dead tree
• Remove screw from picnic table
• Repair board picnic table
• Repaint picnic table
• Remove tree stump picnic area
• Remove tree stump by entrance sign
• Review improper signage installation
• Address vegetation beneath bleacher
• Repair bleacher end cap
• Generally, address all grass/weed trimming
• Paint dugouts
• Storage for equipment?
• Remove exposed fabric
• Exposed wiring on backstop
• Address soft toss damage all backstops
• Remove nails from wooden street sign
• Straighten Tree City USA and wooden road signs
• Remove exposed metal signpost by bench
• Sand/stain wooden bench
• Uniform color for all wooden surfaces in the park?
• Address entire hedge row along Dorset Street
• Uneven grass cutting
• Replace missing yellow fence protectors
• Repair bent gate closure
• Address exposed nails in 3rd base dugout
• Address rutting of the ditch area
• Repair all black corrugated drainpipe and associated dips in the path
• Paint and straighten all foul poles
• Remove pricker bush by 1st base dugout

• Missing endcap on entrance gate

• Exposed/damaged black drainpipe

• Men’s and women’s bathrooms need total overhaul: new toilet seat, paint, ceiling
repair, plumbing access, paper towels, rusted stall partitions, etc.
• Remove dead tree across road
• Remove graffiti/gang tag from electric box
• Re-stain charcoal grey post on electric panel
• Repair numerous potholes in parking lot
• Maple tree by playground is split
• Remove ground level jagged plastic pipe
• Repair/replace all three playground benches
• Review mower/trimmer damage to oak and locust trees
• Repair crack in 2–5-yearold playground green slide
• Remove gras from wood chips swing area
• 50th anniversary sign in disrepair
• Remove dying tree near soccer field
• Remove all low hanging pin oak branches along sidewalk
• Remove graffiti/gang tags back of entrance sign
• Address/repair two wooden utility structures
• Remove graffiti/gang tags from electric boxes swift street
• Remove dead material from newly planted oaks on Swift Street.
After the tour the group gathered at the pavilion to discuss next steps. Bill suggested concern
with these outstanding issues, pointing to preventive maintenance as a goal without the parks
system. The committee would like to support more improvements in the area of parks
maintenance and upkeep and has placed it on their work plan for FY 23.
After the walk-through Mike S motioned to adjourn with Lauren seconding. The committee
voted unanimously to adjourn.
