HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 01/06/1997PUBLIC HEARING 6 JANUARY 1997 The City of South Burlington held a public hearing on Monday, 6 January 1997, at 7:30 p.m., in the Conference Room, City Hall, 575 Dorset Street. Those Present: James Condos, Terrence Sheahan, City Council; Charles Hafter, City Manager; Peg Strait, Assistant City Manager; Margaret Picard, City Clerk/Treasurer; Lee Graham, Police Chief; Albert Audette, Street Department 1. Public Hearing: Law Enforcement Block Grant Program (LEBG) Proposed Use: Mr. Hafter explained that the Police Dept. had been awarded $29,401.00 from the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. No action is required as these funds will be made part of the budgeting process. However, a public hearing is necessary to advise the community of the award and to solicit comment on the uses of these funds. Chief Graham then said that there is to be an Advisory Board to make recommendations as to how the money will be spent. The terms of the grant require that the money be used to fully implement community policing. Chief Graham said part of the money will be used for training to be conducted by people from the Michigan State University who will come to S. Burlington in the spring. There will be four sessions, one each for administrators, middle-level supervisors, and patrol officers, and one for all members of the Department together. The remainder of the funds will be spent for law enforcement technology and other community programs. Mr. Condos asked if it was possible to use the money for CASA. Chief Graham said that is a possibility, but it must be remembered that this grant money will eventually run out. Mr. Condos asked for any further questions or comments from the public. There were none. 2. Other Business: Mr. Hafter noted the Legislative Breakfast will be held next Monday at 7:30 A.M. in the Community Library. Mr. Condos will Chair the meeting. The City Council meeting originally scheduled for this date will be continued on 13 January 1997, at 7:30 p.m. As there was no further business to be transacted, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. City Council Clerk Published by ClerkBase ©2019 by Clerkbase. No Claim to Original Government Works.
