HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 05/24/1993 (2)CITY COUNCIL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING 24 MAY 1993 The South Burlington City Council held an organizational meeting on Monday, 24 May 1993, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room, City Hall, 575 Dorset St. Members Present: Michael Flaherty, James Condos, Robert Chittenden, John Dinklage Also Present: Charles Hafter, City Manager; Ruth Poger, The Other Paper; Peg Strait, Assistant City Manager; Margaret Picard, Assistant City Manager; Albert Audette, Street Dept 1. Administration of Oath of Office: Ms. Picard, City Clerk, administered the Oath of Office to Councilman Flaherty 2. Election of Officers: The City Manager presided over the election of officers and opened the floor for nominations for Chairman of the City Council. Mr. Dinklage nominated Councilman Flaherty. Mr. Chittenden seconded the nomination. There were no further nominations, and in the vote which followed, Councilman Flaherty was elected unanimously. Mr. Flaherty then opened the floor for nomination for Vice Chairman. Mr. Condos nominated Councilman Dinklage. Mr. Chittenden seconded. There were no further nominations, and Mr. Dinklage was elected unanimously. Mr. Condos then nominated Councilman Chittenden for Clerk. Mr. Dinklage seconded. There were no further nominations, and Mr. Chittenden was elected unanimously. 3. Set Time and Place of Regular Meetings: After a brief discussion, Mr. Dinklage moved that regular meetings continue to be held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Chittenden seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 4. Appointments to be made by Majority Vote of the Council, City Charter, Chapter 3, Section 301(2): Mr. Chittenden moved to appoint the following: Margaret Picard, City Treasurer/Trustee of Public Funds; Richard Ward, Zoning Ad-A.M. Peisch, Auditor (3rd year of 3 year contract); Donald Duell, First Constable; Joseph (Ernie) Lemay, Second Constable; Charles Hafter, Grand Juror; Charles Hafter, City Agent. Mr. Dinklage seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Mr. Dinklage moved to appoint Ray Belair to the position of Deputy Zoning Administrator. Mr. Condos seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 5. Information on appointments to be made by Council in June: The City Manager will advertise for positions that are open on various boards and committees. Mr. Dinklage suggested that only new applicants for open positions be interviewed with the exception of the Planning Commission and Zoning Board for which the incumbents would also be interviewed. Members agreed to put this proposal on the next agenda. Other Business: Mr. Flaherty noted receipt of a schedule of meetings on the Route 7 Corridor Study. Mr. Hafter noted that on June 2, at 7:30 p.m., there will be a meeting held in S. Burlington City Hall regarding bridges to be rehabilitated over the Interstate in the city. Work would be done over a period of 2 summers.
