FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT (given by Eileen Beckwith)
Bookshop
• April book sales were $405.42, our 3rd highest month since opening.
• Book donations are ongoing.
Spring Book Sale
• We made $2732.74 plus $328 from the Raffle for a total of $3060.74, which is
slightly more than the fall sale and well over the past few Wheeler House sales
which averaged $1200-$1300.
• We heard constant positive comments about the library. The community is really
embracing the new space.
Spring Concert Series
• May 28 at 1230- Blue Sky Boys(Bluegrass and folk)
• This is the final concert in this outstanding series. Yitzi Gettlesohn should be
commended for the high level musicians that he found this year.
Fall Book sale
• Nov.3-5. We are trying a slightly later date to attract holiday shoppers.
It was noted that Eileen has been refilling the Little Free Library at the University Mall and that it
continues to be well used by the community.
Committee Reports
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee did not meet. Jennifer noted that she and the Finance Committee will be
busy between August and October preparing the budget to present to the City Managers and
Counsel. Looking ahead at extra hours for July - new staff need to be hired to cover the additional
hours. Propose opening 9am-7pm Monday-Friday and Saturday 9am-3pm. No hours for Sunday
are being proposed due to the need for facilities staffing, which is not available at this time.
Governance and Nomination Committee Report
The Governance and Nomination Committee met to discuss board nominations. Margery has
called applicants to give them an overview of the role. Three of the applicants attended the
Trustee meeting today.
At the last meeting the committee also discussed on-going policies and goals for FY22 and prep for
FY23. City goal meeting will be in June, so the committee will prepare at the next meeting. Chair
Leduc, offered his praise for the good work of this committee and the committee chair’s
leadership. The trustees all agreed with the committee’s good work.
Advocacy Committee Report
The Advocacy Committee did not meet.
Strategic Planning Sub-Committee
The Strategic Planning group is creating a plan of action that will include themes and goals. At this
time the group is not going back to the community as there is sufficient information from previous
outreach. The group is gathering early themes from past community outreach, staff and the sub-
committee to work on the goals and action items. Jennifer noted that she had a conversation staff
around themes and goals which was productive and she will bring the information back to the
next meeting so that it will be incorporated with the high level goals and graphics the group will
share with Trustees at our next meeting.
Director’s Report
Jennifer reminded the Evaluation Committee that it is time to meet in preparation for a June
discussion with City Manager, Jessie Baker.
Two staff have resigned and Jennifer is posting for a new Children’s Assistant and Circulation Desk
person.
The library staff is no longer attending the Vermont Library Association conference on June 1,
2022, so the library will be open.
Events are going well, including Gregory Maguire book reading and reception for Middle School
students that worked on an art project with Katie O’Brien.
Jennifer is working with the grant committee to request funding for a summer reading program
($2,500 for reading bags). She is also working to create an annual events/activities calendar that
will assist the grant committee in searching for grants within the granting organization’s grant
cycles.
It is a busy time of year with staff and schedules. Jennifer also noted that as we close in on a year
of being in the building it is time for her to review warranties on equipment.
Other Business
No other business.
Meeting Adjournment
Seeing no other business, the Chair adjourned the meeting at 6:51 pm.
