South Burlington Public Art Committee – Approved minutes
January 18, 2022
In Attendance: Penne Tompkins, Amanda Holland, Trice Stratmann, Ilona Blanchard
(Staff) and Jean Sebastian Chaulot
Penne called the meeting to order at 6:38.
No Changes to the agenda. No public comment
Minutes Approval for December 14, 2021 is postponed until next meeting scheduled for
February 15, 2022, quorum was needed.
Chair Report:
No action was taken to City Council to request additional funds regarding FY23 CIP
Funds.
Public Art Gallery:
Water Color Show -
Alice Eckles sold one of her paintings. Her work was the only abstract work shown in
the group. The Public Art Gallery Water Color show was taken down on Monday
January 10th, by Daniel Zeese and Trice Stratmann. Protocol was discussed
concerning placement of art work not picked up on time by artists. All work to be
stored behind Welcome Counter. If too much work or no one present at desk, work will
be stored in the Library. Contact person will be Ilona Blanchard. Trice will update Art
Gallery Guidelines and send to City Staff Ilona Blanchard. She will send to the gallery
Curator.
Trice suggested photos be taken of the gallery before work is taken down for gallery
archives.
Harlan Mack will be the next show at the gallery.
He has a contact with (Update – Clemons Family Farms). A public talk about his work
was discussed. Possible location, auditorium or the Library’s children space. Perhaps
(Clemons Family Farms) will reimburse him for his time to do this.
Show is scheduled to go up January 25th, Length of show needs to be confirmed by
Daniel. Committee is wondering if show can stay up till March.
Daniel needs to coordinate Call to Artists for the next show. SB will be publishing on
committee page, 7-days.
Committee will approve the next artist selection.
CIP Funds 2022:
Distribution of 20,000. Funds for the next two years was discussed. Money could be
split over that time. Call for Artist RFP guidelines and criteria were revised.
Voting on the revised RFP and warned meeting will be done for next meeting February
15, 2022.
City Web Site:
Amanda Holland worked up a Draft Content for the City of South Burlington Public Art
web page. Coralee will make actual updates.
It was divided into four sections with the following committee members working to
finalize draft content for each section.

Cultural Art Resources were also discussed. Listing of all art organizations currently
located in South Burlington, including schools, artist studios, music, dance and theatre.
These drafts will be reviewed on February 1, 2022. And edited by Ilona for final review
for Public Art Committee meeting, February 15, 2022.
Staff Report:
The City has received a 30,000 Grant for 2022 “Winter Festival”.
This will be a two-day event show casing the Arts via crafts, local food and beverages.
Festival Committee will be meeting every two weeks to develop festival design.
The use of ARPA Funds may be asked to be used to develop South Burlington’s Cultural
Plan and aid to arts organizations in South Burlington.
