Leaving the decision to preserve the existing 18 inch maple on the west side of the building should not be left up to the contractor, if the tree is going to be retained the appropriate tree protection measures must be on the plans and applied.  Recommend continuous planting pits filled with loam/sandy loam soil to a depth of 2ft in parking lot bump outs to provide adequate soils for tree/plant growth  The landscape budget detailed on the plans may not meet minimum requirements.
