HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 10/18/1982CITY COUNCIL October 18, 1982 The South Burlington City Council held a regular meeting on Monday, October 18, 1982, at 7:30 p.m., in the Conference Room, City Hall, 575 Dorset Street. Members Present Paul Farrar, Chairman; Michael Flaherty, William Burgess, Hugh Marvin Members Absent Leona Lansing Others Present Bill Fisk, Michael Knott, William J. Szymanski Read Minutes of Special Meeting of September 27, 1982; Regular Meeting of October 4, 1982, and Special Meeting of October 11, 1982 Mr. Flaherty moved that the minutes of the Special Meeting of September 27, 1982, the Regular Meeting of October 4, 1982 and the Special Meeting of October 11, 1982, be accepted with condition as written with addition. "Mr. Burgess seconded with unanimous approval. Sign Disbursement Orders Disbursement Orders were signed. Interview Applicant for Library Board of Trustees The Council interviewed Verna E. Gordon for the Library Board of Trustees. Following the interview, Mr. Flaherty moved that the Council appoint Verna E. Gordon to the Library Board of Trustees. Mr. Marvin seconded with unanimous approval. Appoint Voting Delegate for Vermont League of Cities and Towns Annual Business Meeting Mr. Flaherty moved that the Council appoint Margaret A, Picard as Voting Delegate to the Annual Business Meeting of the Vermont League of Cities and Towns on October 21, 1982. Mr. Burgess seconded with unanimous approval. Complete landswap with O'Brien Brothers for land required for Kimball Avenue construction Mr. Farrar explained that the deeds necessary to complete the landswap had never been fully executed. Mr. Burgess moved that the deeds to complete the landswap be signed by the Council. Mr. Flaherty seconded with unanimous approval. Discuss Needs Survey Mr. Farrar explained that estimates for read maintenance (i.e. resurfacing and reconstruction) will run approximately $1.1 million per year. He questioned whether the Council, as a body, wished to go along with other communities in the County in proposing specific recommendations to the State. One possible recommendation might be an increase in the gasoline tax, with this increase coming back to the localities. Mr. Flaherty suggested that after the November elections, the Council might approach the City's representatives on this matter. This suggestion was received with common consent. Mr. Szymanski further suggested that the possibility of adding Dorset Street to the five year plan might also be discussed with the new representatives. As there was no further business, Mr. Flaherty moved that the meeting be adjourned. Mr. Burgess seconded with unanimous approval .
