HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 05/14/1981CITY COUNCIL MAY 14, 1981 The South Burlington City Council held a special meeting on Thursday, May 14, 1981 at 8:00 p.m. in the Conference Room, City Hall, 575 Dorset Street. Members Present Paul Farrar, Chairman; Martin Paulsen, William Burgess Members Absent Michael Flaherty, John Towne Others Present William Szymanski, City Manager; Lansing Reinholz, Kevin Hayes, Peter Lavallee, Robert Hawke Mr. Reinholz felt that both sides understood the position of the other side. One issue which has not been settled yet is the issue of the detective stipend, but there was a time line on that item and it has gone by. Mr. Farrar said it could be made retroactive. Mr. Reinholz said the city was offering a 7% increase on the base plus a change in the dental plan and an increase in life insurance coverage. Mr. Farrar added that there were changes in merit and longevity, which are reflected in the new plan the city has proposed. Mr. Reinholz said that if every money issue except salaries were dropped, the difference between the two sides would be about $6300, and to the best of their knowledge, a 1% increase would cost about $2000. He said the union was willing to drop the outstanding issues, including holidays, clothing allowance, accident leave, personal leave and sick leave if the city would increase its offer by adding 1% more on the base. If this is agreed to, the two sides will have a contract. Mr. Farrar asked whether what he meant was that the dollar figures for longevity, the yearly increments and all those items would be as they are in the present city proposal and 1% would be added to the base. Mr. Reinholz said that was correct. Mr. Farrar said the Council would discuss the offer and get back to the union. It was decided to meet on Thursday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m. Clerk Published by ClerkBase ©2019 by Clerkbase. No Claim to Original Government Works.
