HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 05/17/1978CITY COUNCIL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING MAY 17, 1978 The South Burlington City Council held an organizational meeting in the Assessors Office, Municipal Building, 1175 Williston Rd., at 4:45 P.M. on Wednesday, May 17, 1978. Members Present Paul Farrar, Michael Flaherty, Martin Paulsen, Kenneth Jarvis, William Burgess. Others Present William Szymanski, Richard Ward, Margaret Picard, Fran Brock, Jamie Grenier, Betty Bailey. City Manager William Szymanski chaired the meeting, calling it to order at 4:55 P.M. He opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Oath of Office City Councilman Martin Paulsen administered the oath of office to City Clerk Margaret A. Picard. Mrs Picard then administered the oath to Councilman Michael Flaherty for the three year term and to Kenneth Jarvis for the two year term as Councilman. Election of Officers Mr. Szymanski said that the chair was open for nominations for Chairman and Mr. Paulsen nominated Paul Farrar, and stated that he was doing an outstanding job. Mr. Burgess seconded the nomination. Mr. Flaherty moved that the nominations be closed, and Mr. Paulsen seconded the motion. Mr. Farrar was voted Council Chairman unanimously. Mr. Szymanski said that the chair was open for nominations for Vice Chairman. Mr. Paulsen nominated Mr. Flaherty. It was seconded by Mr. Burgess. Mr. Farrar moved that the nominations be closed. Mr. Flaherty was elected Vice Chairman unanimously. Mr. Szymanski said that the chair was open for nominations for Clerk. Mr. Paulsen nominated Kenneth Jarvis, seconded by Mr. Burgess. Mr. Farrar moved that the nominations be closed and Mr. Flaherty seconded the motion. Mr. Jarvis was voted Clerk. Set time and place for regular meetings The regular meeting time has been the first and third Mondays of the month. No one had any objections to this, but a discussion followed about the time. Mr. Farrar made a motion that the meeting time be 8:00 P.M. for June, July and August and starting in September the meetings time would be 7:30 P.M. for the rest of the year. Mr. Paulsen seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meetings will be held in the City Hall Conference Room unless otherwise stated.
