HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 08/26/1977CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 26, 1977 The South Burlington City Council held a special meeting at 7:00 pm. on Friday August 26, 1977 in the Conference Room, Municipal Offices, 1175 Williston Road. Members Present Paul Farrar, Chairman; Frank Armstrong, William Burgess, Michael Flaherty, Martin Paulsen Others Present William Szymanski, City Manager; Kirk Woolery, Frederick Tuttle, Richard Ward, Hugh Watkins, Margaret Picard, Dick Picard, Pat Burgmeier, The Other Paper Appointment of City Treasurer and Trustee of Public Funds, and Zoning Administrator Mr. Armstrong moved that the City Council appoint Mrs. Picard as City Treasurer and Trustee of Public Funds. The motion was seconded by Mr. Flaherty, who added that the city had had two qualified candidates and that this was not a reflection on either but was rather the way it had to be. The motion passed unanimously. Mr. Paulsen moved that Richard Ward be appointed to the position of Zoning Administrator. The motion was seconded by Mr. Flaherty and passed unanimously. Mr. Flaherty then moved that the City Council sign letters to the Burlington Savings Bank and other lending institutions certifying the appointment of the Treasurer and Trustee of Public Funds. The motion was seconded by Mr. Paulsen and passed unanimously. Mr. Flaherty then moved that the City Council ratify any actions that Richard Ward took during the period of July 1 to the present acting in the position of Zoning Administrator. The motion was seconded by Mr. Paulsen and passed unanimously. Signing of Petition for the installation of telephone cable to Digital Mr. Szymanski said that anytime the utility extended lines in city streets, a petition had to be signed. He explained that the underground cable would start at the intersection of Williston Road and Kennedy Drive and run along the roads to the new plant. Mr. Paulsen asked if this would interfere with future services, widening of the road, etc. and was told that it would not. This is being done at no expense to the city. Mr. Paulsen moved that the City Council sign the petition for the buried telephone cable for the new Digital plant. The motion was seconded by Mr. Flaherty and passed unanimously. Mr. Farrar said that the city had been fortunate to have had two qualified people running for Clerk-Treasurer, that the Council thanked the School Board for their input, and said that they especially thanked Richard Ward for serving in the interim.
