HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 06/01/1972CITY OF SOUTH BURLINGTON, VERMONT June 1, 1972 SUMMARY OF MEETING WITH DOCTOR JOHN BOARDMAN FOR AMBULANCE SERVICE Dr. Boardman requested a subsidy of $1.00 per head in South Burlington plus $25.00 per call made. Based on last year's 170+ calls this would amount to $14,500. I advised him this amount was out of the question. SOME FACTS ON THE SERVICE: 1. 9 men exclusively in ambulance service, 2 per shift. 2. Two vehicles. 3. All personnel trained at U.V.M. Medical school and hospital equivilent to para-medical skill. 4. New ambulance to have cardiogram, radio broadcast, and radio link to 9 specialist physicians. 5. Service to include on site first aid, emergency service when hospital care is not required. COSTS: 1. Burlington's budget for the full time service is $60,000. 2. Burlington's cost will not reduce if South Burlington does not use the service. SUMMARY: I suggested South Burlington might consider a lump sum payment to Burlington then allowing us to bill and collect monthly the charges from South Burlington users. Dr. Boardman thought this was possible and suggested the lump sum be $9,000. If we were to charge $40.00 per call, based on an average of 200 users, our collection potential would be $8,000. Dr. Boardman is awaiting a formal offer on our part if we are interested. Frederick G.
