HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 05/06/1970FIRE DEPARTMENT BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MAY 6, 1970 WITH CONTRACTOR AND ARCHITECT The Fire Department Building Committee held a meeting in the Town Manager's Office, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday, May 6, 1970 at 7:30 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT Robert M. Janes, Town Manager; Fire Chief Monell, Town Engineer Szymanski, and Frederick G. Blais, Selectman. OTHERS PRESENT Remi Gratton and Architect Richard Wiemann from Wright & Morrissey Construction Company. Also present was Mr. Dubie of Wright & Morrissey. BUSINESS CONDUCTED Town Manager Janes opened the meeting by reading a portion of the minutes of the Selectmen's meeting of May 4, 1970, which designated Wright & Morrissey, Incorporated as the building contractor if a price of $95,000 can be negotiated for the complete building. A list of the suggested changes to reduce the cost of the building to the $95,000.00 price was presented by Mr. Gratton (copy attached) which was reviewed by the town representatives. A discussion regarding the use of steel lockers followed. Chief Monell objected to their use. It was decided to delete this item in its entirety for the time being. Mr. Gratton stated it may be possible to include their construction if other savings in plumbing or electrical work are found and approved. The list of changes was approved. Mr. Wiemann presented his floor plan to all present. A long discussion followed. BUSINESS CONDUCTED, CONTINUED Chief Monell voiced his objection to the location of the instruction room. Chief Monell recommended this room be located on the westerly side with direct access to the outside, also the elimination of the outside access door to the equipment room. These points of disagreement were not resolved. Frederick Blais recommended these points of disagreement be resolved at the special Selectmen's meeting scheduled for Friday, May 8, 1970, at 4:00 P.M. at the Town Office Building. All agreed. Mr. Janes instructed Bill Szymanski, to draft a letter of intent for presentation to the Contractor at the Friday meeting so that he can proceed with the construction work prior to the execution of the agreement.
