HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 03/06/1968BOARD OF SELECTMEN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING MARCH 6, 1968 The South Burlington Board of Selectmen held an organizational meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday, March 6, 1968 at 4:00 P.M. Mr. C. Harry Behney and Mr. Walter P. Nardelli, newly elected Selectmen, were administered the oath of office by Mrs. Helen D. Paquin, Town Clerk, after which the Chairman gave the new members reference material in the form of copies of previous minutes of meetings, zoning ordinances, town charter, annual reports, budgets, warnings, etc. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Robert K. Ashley, C. Harry Behney, Walter P. Nardelli and Augustus T. Stannard. MEMBERS ABSENT None OTHERS PRESENT Henry LeClair, Town Manager ELECTION OF OFFICERS Mr. LeClair took the chair and asked for nominations for the office of Chairman of the Board. Vincent J. D'Acuti was nominated by Robert Ashley and seconded by Augustus Stannard. There were no other nominations and the vote was unanimous in electing Mr. D'Acuti as Chairman of the Board. Chairman D'Acuti then took the chair and asked for nominations for the office of Vice-Chairman of the Board. Robert K. Ashley was nominated by Augustus Stannard and the nomination was seconded. There were no other nominations and the vote was unanimous in electing Mr. Ashley as Vice- Chairman of the Board. ELECTION OF OFFICERS, continued The Chairman asked for nominations for Clerk of the Board. Harry Behney was nominated by Vincent J. D'Acuti and the nomination was seconded. There were no other nominations and the vote was unanimous in electing Mr. Behney as Clerk of the Board. SET TIME AND PLACE OF REGULAR MEETINGS The Selectmen voted unanimously to hold their regular meetings on the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 P.M. at the Town Office Building on Dorset Street, with the exception of a prior advertised meeting of Tuesday, March 19, 1968. SET DATE FOR MAKING COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS The Town Manager gave the Board members a list of last year's committee members. The Chairman asked the Board to review the list, saying appointments should be made at the meeting of March 19, 1968 as the Government and Industrial Committees were anxious to get going. TOUR OF TOWN'S PHYSICAL PLANTS Mr. Behney, Mr. Nardelli, and the Chairman agreed on Saturday, March 9, at 9:30 A.M. as a convenient time to tour the town's physical plants. GENERAL DISCUSSION There was a general discussion of town matters, and the Chairman briefed the new members on the progress of the sewer construction, use of the municipal land, need for Fire Department and Police Department building, the functions of the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the role the Regional Planning Commission has in obtaining Federal Funds for necessary projects and the availability of land for recreation, etc. The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 P.M.
