HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 01/30/1968BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING JANUARY 30, 1968 The South Burlington Board of Selectmen held a public meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Tuesday, January 30, 1968 at 7:30 P.M. Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT Mr. Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman; Frederick G. Blais, Augustus T. Stannard and Stephen M. Whittlesey. MEMBERS ABSENT Robert K. Ashley OTHERS PRESENT Henry LeClair, Town Manager; George Silver, Town Assessor, Edgar Myers, Free Press Reporter; James Lowe, Manager of the Town of Colchester; Barbara Bull from the League of Women Voters and Richard Weimans from the office of J. Henderson Barr, Architect. PINE PLACE - QUEEN CITY PARK, REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF STREET NAME The Town Manager told the Selectmen that a resident had requested that they consider changing the name of Pine Place in Queen City Park. The Selectmen agreed that it would be advantagious and told the Manager to give the request to the Planning Commission as they are making a study of street names. VERMONT LEAGUE OF CITIES AND TOWNS, PRESENTATION BY JAMES LOWE Mr. James Lowe, President of the Vermont League of Cities and Towns presented a short explanation of the functions of the organization in a general manner, saying the purpose of the League was the improvement of municipal government and administration and the promotion of the general welfare of the town and cities of the State. He said a full time Director was being hired and the League would maintain a central bureau of information and research, publish a monthly magazine and secure the cooperation of U.V.M. to promote education in municipal government. Mr. Lowe said the cost to South Burlington, based on population would be $3.50 for a membership with a registration fee of $10.00 Mr. D'Acuti said he would talk with Mayor Cain of Burlington about the League and the Board then thanked Manager Lowe for his presentation, told him they would discuss the matter during their Executive Session, and would let him know what they decided to do. PRESENTATION BY GEORGE SILVER, TOWN ASSESSOR - TAX MAP Mr. Silver showed the Board members a tax map that has already been drawn up and explained its many uses. He outlined the different methods of assessing and gave a report on his progress. The Selectmen agreed that he was doing a fine job and said they were considering his request for full or part-time clerical help. PRESENTATION BY RICHARD WEIMANS OF BARR'S OFFICE - TOWN BUILDINGS Mr. Weimans gave each Selectman a written report of the progress made on preliminary planning for a Town Office Building and discussed Police and Fire Department facilities. There was a general discussion on the progress being made and the Board made suggestions for items, rooms, and space they felt was desirable. The Board went into Executive Session for final budget study at 9:30 P.M. and came out at 11:30 P.M. when the meeting was adjourned.
