BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING AUGUST 12, 1968 The South Burlington Board of Selectmen held a special meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Monday, August 12, 1968 at 6:30 P.M. Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman; Robert K. Ashley, Charles H. Behney, Walter Nardelli and Augustus T. Stannard. MEMBERS ABSENT None OTHERS PRESENT Henry LeClair, Town Manager; Allan Kaufman and Nancy Hartman, and William Szymanski, Town Engineer. READING OF THE MINUTES OF AUGUST 5, 1968 The minutes of the meeting of August 5, 1968 were approved as read, after a correction was made in the Stump Dump Development item. SIGN DISBURSEMENT ORDERS The Selectmen signed the disbursement orders as presented. ALLAN KAUFMAN ZONE CHANGE REQUEST Mr. D'Acuti read the proposed ordinance for the second reading. The Selectmen unanimously voted to approve the zone change. The ordinance reads as follows: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND "THE SOUTH BURLINGTON ZONING ORDINANCE" BY CREATION OF AN ADDITIONAL AREA OF BUSINESS DISTRICT B. The Selectmen of South Burlington hereby ordain: Section 1. The South Burlington Zoning Ordinance adopted February 28, 1964, and the official zoning map adopted in connection therewith is hereby amended by changing the land use of the following described land from Business District A and Planned District to Business District B. Appeal of Allan Kaufman to rezone a parcel of land located on the easterly side of Shelburne Road, commencing at the point that marks the intersection of Shelburne Road and the road leading to the land of the U.V.M. Horticultural Farm, thence running easterly six hundred (600) feet along said road, thence southerly six hundred (600) feet parallel to Shelburne Road, thence westerly six hundred (600) feet to Shelburne Road, and thence northerly six hundred (600) feet to the point of beginning. Stannard SOUTH BURLINGTON BOARD OF SELECTMEN The Chairman advised Mr. Kaufman that his next step was to go before the Planning Commission for approval of his plans. Mr. LeClair suggested that Mr. Kaufman meet with the Town Engineer who would brief him on the Commission's requirements. DISCUSSION ON PROPOSED SHOPPING CENTER Mr. D'Acuti read two letters, one from Mr. Brouilette and one from Alfred Brunini concerning the proposed new shopping center on Shelburne Road in regard to its general appearance and traffic problem. The Selectmen discussed the increase in traffic due to growth in the Shelburne Road and Orchard School areas and discussed solutions. The Chairman recommended that the Police Chief be asked to look into the advisability of removing the barricade at the end of Hume Avenue and the feasibility of having one way traffic, going west, on Queen City Park Road. The Board agreed to this and Mr. LeClair was instructed to invite the Police Chief to attend the next meeting to report on his findings. MISCELLANEOUS Mr. LeClair was instructed to have the Police Chief report on his progress in the formation of a juvenile department also. The Town Engineer reported on the progress of the sidewalk construction and was instructed to work up a plowing schedule so that the sidewalks could be kept free of snow. Mr. Stannard suggested that the highway department should plan on the removal of snow in the Shelburne Road area. Mr. Nardelli reported that a citizen had complained about two junk cars on property at the corner of Thompson Court and Airport Drive. Mr. LeClair was instructed to call the Police Department and have the complaint checked. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M. APPROVED Charles H.
