HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 04/22/1968BOARD OF SELECTMEN SPECIAL MEETING APRIL 22, 1968 The South Burlington Board of Selectmen held a special meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Monday, April 22, 1968 at 7:00 P.M. Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman; Mr. Robert K. Ashley, Mr. C. Harry Behney and Mr. Walter Nardelli. MEMBERS ABSENT Augustus T. Stannard OTHERS PRESENT Mr. Henry LeClair, Town Manager and Mr. Rowland E. Peterson. FIRST READING OF ZONE CHANGE REQUEST FOR J. BOONE WILSON (MARCELL'S TRUST) Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, read the zone change request of J. Boone Wilson to rezone his property from Industrial District A to Business District A. The Chairman showed the Board the location of the property on a plot plan. On a motion made by Mr. Behney and seconded by Mr. Nardelli, the Selectmen unanimously voted to approve the first reading and to forward the petition to the Planning Commission for their recommendation. CALLING SPECIAL MEETINGS FOR URGENT MATTERS Mr. D'Acuti said he had talked with Mr. Kellner, Chairman of the Planning Commission, about the practice of holding special meetings. He explained that in this case, the persons interested in developing the property had an option until June 1, 1968. If the deal goes through they want to be able to open for business by Christmas of this year. He discussed with Mr. Kellner the fact that he knew legal procedures had to be followed, and therefore felt that anytime an urgent request like the Wilson request was presented the Planning Commission should feel obligated to hold a special meeting so the procedures would not be unnecessarily delayed. FRONT YARD SET-BACK - BUSINESS DISTRICT A The Town Manager pointed out the inequity of having a 50 foot set-back in Business District B and a 25 foot set-back in Business District A. After a general discussion the Selectmen unanimously agreed that Section 7.40 (Front Yard Requirements) of the South Burlington Zoning Ordinances should be amended to read 50 feet instead of 25 feet. INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS REGARDING MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS Mr. LeClair told the Board members that he had obtained two dates for holding informational meetings about the proposed municipal buildings for the townspeople prior to the special election to be held on June 4, 1968. The dates were May 16, 1968 - meeting at the Orchard School, and May 22, 1968 - meeting at South Burlington High School. The Board approved of the dates and set a starting time of 7:30 P.M. for both meetings. READING OF THE MINUTES OF APRIL 15, 1968 As Mr. Behney was misquoted in the April 15, 1968 minutes, regarding the Hullabaloo Club Item on page 2, the correction was noted and the item now reads: The Board discussed the request briefly, and on a motion made by Mr. Nardelli and seconded by Mr. Behney the Board voted unanimously to deny the request. The Board adjourned at 7:22 P.M. to meet with the School Board at their regular meeting in the High School. APPROVED Published by ClerkBase ©2019 by Clerkbase. No Claim to Original Government Works.
