BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING JANUARY 11, 1967 The South Burlington Board of Selectmen held a special meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday, January 11, 1967. Mr. Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman; Robert K. Ashley, Frederick G. Blais, Augustus T. Stannard and Stephen M. Whittlesey. MEMBERS ABSENT None OTHERS PRESENT Henry LeClair, Town Manager; Eugene Cenci, Manager of Holiday Inn, Kenneth Jarvis, representing the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Roger LeCours of the Free Press. READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Minutes of the January 3, 1967 meeting were not read. MR. EUGENE CENCI, GREATER BURLINGTON MOTEL ASSOCIATION Mr. Cenci appeared in behalf of the Motel Association to request the Board to give considerable thought to expanding the Police Department both in personnel and equipment as well as increased salaries. Mr. Cenci cited how the School Department had used his expansion as an example of where new school revenues were coming from, and felt that some of these tax dollars should be ear-marked to provide services in the form of police protection. Mr. Cenci stated that his appearance was not to be construed as a complaint against the present department. He expressed his appreciation of the chief, detective and other personnel for services rendered in the past and merely wanted to emphasize the need for adequate salaries to retain competent men. FIRST READING OF PROPOSED ZONING CHANGE IN PLANNED AREA Mr. D'Acuti read a proposed ordinance to amend the South Burlington Zoning Ordinance by creation of an additional area of Business District A. Description of the property is as follows: "A parcel of land bounded on the south by Interstate Route 189, on the north and east by land of Rice Memorial High School, and on the west by land owned by Thomas Farrell." On motion made by Mr. Blais, seconded by Mr. Stannard, the Board voted in favor of passing the first reading by three yes votes, one no vote and an abstension by the Chairman. JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WEEK The proclamation of the observance of Junior Chamber of Commerce week, approved at the January 3, 1967 meeting, was read by Mr. D'Acuti. The Proclamation which was to have been filed in the minutes was taken off by the J. C's. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board went into executive session at 8:20 P.M. to consider the Highway Budget and other matters and adjourned at 11:45 P.M. Approved Published by ClerkBase ©2019 by Clerkbase.
