HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 02/03/1966BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING FEBRUARY 3, 1966 The South Burlington Board of Selectmen held a special meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont on Thursday, February 3, 1966 at 5 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman; Robert K. Ashley, Mr. Frederick G. Blais, Augustus T. Stannard, and Stephen M. Whittlesey. OTHERS PRESENT Irving L. Douglas, Town Manager; Henry LeClair, Assistant Town Manager; John T. Ewing, Attorney; Francis R. Peisch, Attorney for Fire District #3; Robert C. Ladd, Highway Superintendent; and William B. Guilford, representing the residents of Fire District #3. FIRE DISTRICT #3 Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 5:10 P.M. and reviewed the situation to those present as follows: He made it clear that the Fire District #3 question would be on the ballot at the March Meeting and that the cost of $18,000 had been figured in the proposed 1966-67 budget. However, he stated that several matters should be taken care of, as follows: 1. Clear obstacles with Burlington. 2. The contract should be transferred to the town. 3. All available easements should be transferred to the town. 4. Fire District #3 should make repairs, flush the system, install manholes, etc., as outlined by the Highway Superintendent, before the town takes over, at an estimated cost of $6000. A general discussion followed in which Mr. Guilford stated that he did not think the residents of the District would agree to spending $6,000 as they had already made what they considered an extra payment of $3000 on the Bond Issue because of the delay in negotiations. Mr. Peisch, Attorney, stated that he believed there would not be any difficulty in securing an agreement between Burlington and South Burlington and he was already preparing to do so. He also said he knew there was no easement deed on the Farrell property and wasn't sure about any others. Mr. Ladd, Highway Superintendent, asked if it was possible to get any installation plans of the system. Mr. Peisch and Mr. Guilford said they would try to find out about them and obtain them for the Town. After further discussion Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, and the members of the Board agreed that asking the Fire District to put the system in shape at an estimated cost of $6,000 was an equitable request, and it was decided by those present that the matter should be brought to the attention of the members of Fire District #3, and a meeting was set-up for Tuesday, February 8, at 8 P.M. at the Orchard School on Shelburne Road. There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was adjourned at 6 P.M. APPROVED Published by ClerkBase ©2019 by Clerkbase. No Claim to Original Government Works.
