HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 10/19/1965BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING OCTOBER 19, 1965 The Board of Selectmen of South Burlington held a public meeting at the Town Office Building, 555 Dorset Street on October 19, 1965 at 7:30 P. M. The meeting was called to order by Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman; Robert K. Ashley, Ralph G. Goodrich, Augustus T. Stannard and Stephen M. Whittlesey. OTHERS PRESENT Irving L. Douglas, Town Manager; Henry N. LeClair, Assistant Town Manager; Angelo Pizzagalli and John Conant of the Pizzagalli Constrution Company, Ed Myers of the Burlington Free Press, Mr. David LeSourd, Mr. G. Dana Alling, Mrs. Charles Lotz, Mrs. David Faigel, Dr. and Mrs. Ethan Allen H. Sims, Mrs. Charles Gluck, Mr. Lewis Wetzel and several other interested persons. READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the meeting of October 5, 1965 were approved as read. SECOND READING OF PIZZAGALLI ZONING PETITION Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman, read the Pizzagalli Zoning petition as advertised. Mr. David LeSourd and Mr. G. Dana Alling spoke in favor of rezoning the property. Mrs. David Faigel read a letter signed by Mrs. Robin Milne, President of the South Burlington League of Women Voters, supporting the change of zoning. Mr. Pizzagalli displayed a sketch of his proposed apartment buildings to the Board members and explained the lay-out and the proposed landscaping. Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman then read a portion of a letter from the Planning Commission, signed by William D. Kellner, Chairman, which stated in part "The Commission was split in its discussion of the petition as submitted and therefore cannot make any recommendation'. After further discussion the Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to approve the request for a change of zoning as submitted. Mr. Douglas, Town Manager, was instructed to notify Mr. Pizzagalli that his petition had been approved. FIRST READING OF BOLTON ZONING PETITION Mr. Ralph Goodrich made a motion that the Bolton request be introduced for the first reading. The motion was seconded by Mr. Stannard and the proposed ordinance was read by Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman. The Town Manager was instructed to advertise the proposed ordinance for a second reading at the regular meeting of November 16, 1965 and to notify the Planning Commission that it was to be considered. TRAFFIC LIGHTS - CUPOLA AND GAYNES Mr. Douglas, Town Manager, and the Board of Selectmen discussed at length the problem of installing traffic lights on Williston Road in order to have them placed where they would do the maximum good. They agreed to have the signals installed at the main entrance to the Cupola Motel and Restaurant, across Williston Road from Gaynes. Mr. Douglas, Town Manager, was instructed to take care of the matter at once. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 P. M.
