HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 01/19/1965BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING JANUARY 19, 1965 The Board of Selectmen of the Town of South Burlington held a meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 1965, at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Municipal Building at 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman, Augustus T. Stannard, Robert K. Ashley, and Stephen M. Whittlesey. MEMBERS ABSENT Ralph Goodrich. OTHERS PRESENT Irving L. Douglas, Town Manager, William Kellner, Chairman of the Planning Commission Board, Robert Ladd, Superintendent of Public Works, Police Chief Richard G. Carter, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Simpson. READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the meeting of January 5, 1965 were read and approved. RE-ZONING OF SIMPSON PROPERTY Chairman D'Acuti announced that Mr. Roland Laferrier of 1356 Williston Road telephoned him regarding the re-zoning of the Simpson property. Mr. Laferrier protested the zone change, if Mr. Simpson were to establish a Used Car Lot business instead of the proposed Gift Shop. Ballots were given to members of the Board, and it was unanimously approved to re-zone the Simpson property from Residence District "B" to Business District "A". LETTER FROM GOLDMAN AND SACHS, INC. Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, read two letters from Goldman and Sachs, Inc., in which they stated they would like to act as advisors for the Town of South Burlington in the financing of the proposed Sewerage System for South Burlington. Representatives of the company will meet with members of the Board on Tuesday, January 26, 1965, at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Municipal Building in South Burlington. Mr. Moore of the Chittenden Trust Company will also attend the January 26th meeting at which the financing of the proposed Sewerage System will be discussed in detail. The estimated cost of retaining Goldman and Sachs, Inc., as advisors will be eighty-four hundred dollars. Mr. Douglas, Town Manager, stated that he learned, during the meeting held in Boston recently, that the Town of South Burlington has a double "A" rating. He stated that he believed that it might be possible for the Town to obtain a low interest rate. The Chittenden Trust Company recommended the company of Goldman and Sachs, Inc., to the Town Manager. It is possible that the Board of Selectmen could vote to retain the company of Goldman and Sachs, Inc., on January 26th. TOWN BUDGETS FOR 1965-1966 Mr. Ralph Goodrich had requested Mr. D'Acuti to ask the Board if the item listed in the Highway Budget for a Traffic Control Light could be added to the Selectmen's Budget instead of being considered as part of the present Highway Budget. Discussion followed in which Mr. Douglas informed the Members of the Board that it would be much better to keep the Traffic Control Light account in the present Highway Budget. If the item was transferred to the Selectmen's Budget, and the Town received State Aid funds for the light, the funds would only have to be transferred to the Highway Budget. It was agreed by the members that further discussion of the Town Budgets would be continued in an Executive Session of the Board of Selectmen. During the Executive Session, the Burlington Free Press reporter, and the Town Manager's secretary were excused.
