BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING APRIL 20, 1965 The Board of Selectmen for the Town of South Burlington held a meeting on Tuesday, April 20, 1965, at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Municipal Building at 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman, Augustus T. Stannard, Ralph Goodrich, Robert K. Ashley, and Stephen Whittlesey. OTHERS PRESENT Irving L. Douglas, Town Manager, and Mr. Richard Gracey. READING OF THE CORRECTED MINUTES AND MINUTES OF APRIL 6th The Corrected minutes of the meeting of March 30th, and the minutes of the meeting of April 6th were read and approved. SECOND READING OF THE FIRE ORDINANCE The Chairman of the Board read the Fire Ordinance for the second time, and this Ordinance was unanimously approved by the Board, and became effective at the time of its passage. Fire services for the Town of South Burlington for the months of January, February, and March amounted to eight thousand, two hundred and sixty-seven dollars which is about one-half of the Budget figure that was assigned for this service. The Chairman of the Board is to meet with the Fire Chief of Burlington this week. Mr. D'Acuti asked the Town Manager to compile a list of the different types of fires, also the total number of grass fires which totaled about four thousand dollars so far this year. READING OF AN ANONYMOUS LETTER Mr. D'Acuti, Chairman of the Board, read an anonymous letter in which the writer asked what was to be done about the dogs in South Burlington. Two articles from THE BURLINGTON FREE PRESS were included. The Town Manager reported that many calls had been received concerning the unappreciative habits of the local dogs. Members of the Board felt that the public should be informed via the press that they should restrain their pets more efficiently. LETTER FROM SOUTH BURLINGTON LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS A letter from the South Burlington League of Women Voters was read to the Board members. The President of the League thanked all the Town officials for their assistance in compiling the Centennial booklet that the League has been distributing this week. LETTER FROM ROTC A letter from the University of Vermont ROTC was read by the Chairman of the Board. STANDING COMMITTEES It was unanimously approved by the Board of Selectmen that H. Sheldon Jacobs of Proctor Avenue be appointed as a member to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The Town Manager was instructed to notify the new member of his appointment. Mr. Jacobs will fill the unexpired term of Robert Hoose, who resigned. Gracey Property Re-Zoned Mr. D'Acuti read the letter from the Planning Commission in which they approved of the re-zoning of the balance of Mr. Gracey's property. Mr. Gracey displayed a plot plan to members of the Board, and a discussion of catch basins, and storm drains followed. It will be necessary for Mr. Gracey to submit a building permit application. The Board unanimously voted to re-zone the balance of Mr. Richard Gracey's property. CENTENNIAL DISCUSSION Mr. D'Acuti told the Board members of his attendance at a Burlington Centennial meeting. He pointed out that Burlington is having some events on the same days as South Burlington. The Jaycees of South Burlington will hold a parade, and many activities on May 15th. DISCUSSION OF THE PROPOSED SEWERAGE SYSTEM The Board members discussed the plans, and specification of the different Phases of the proposed Sewerage System of South Burlington. Methods of financing the proposed system were unanimously approved by the Board. Tentative dates were discussed for a public hearing on the project.
